Fill-Ins and the Flash

Aren't Fridays just the best? It means the weekend is upon us. And, hopefully for all of our US friends, Memorial Day means this is a three day weekend!

What's more, Friday means it's time for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by our good furiends over at 15andmeowing and McGuffy's Reader.

I love this kind of challenge, because it really gets your mind thinking. What's more, it allows us all to get to know each a little better.

This week, we were given the following statements to fill in:
  1. Whatever happened to _________?
  2. I always _________ on Memorial Day (or your country’s equivalent).
  3. I used to wish ________, but _________.
  4.  I just cannot _________, no matter _________.
After some brainstorming, here's what I came up with:
  1. Whatever happened to enjoying the simple things in life? (Even as a child back in the nineties, my type of fun was covering every inch of the driveway in chalk murals, catching fireflies, rolling down hills on a nice summer evening, reading good ol' books for hours, filling up a coloring book from cover to cover, and building cities out of Legos. I actually feel a bit saddened when I watch kids and even adults these days, seemingly always too busy to do anything but stare down at the screen of whatever device they're holding at the time. I know times are changing, but can't we still take time to enjoy the simpler things in life?)
  2. I always have a cookout with my family on Memorial Day. (I know, what a cliche. But, I wouldn't have it any other way.)
  3. I used to wish that I'd grow up to be a veterinarian, but after working as a veterinary assistant I changed my mind. (I love animals, so what else better to aspire to be than a veterinarian? That's what I thought all the way into my teenage years. Then, right out of college, I worked as a veterinary assistant for nearly 3 years. Although I very much loved helping animals, I had to be honest with myself - watching furbabies face sickness and sometimes even death on a daily basis was wearing me down. And so, I left that environment and now strive to help animals in other ways.)
  4. I just cannot bring myself to enjoy a cup of coffee, no matter how it's made. (I can't stand the taste of coffee, especially the bitter aftertaste. I feel like I've tried it every way possible, even mixed with some of my favorite things - chocolate, caramel, mint, lots and lots and lots of sugar. But, no matter what, I can't bring myself to enjoy that taste.)
Now, I guess it's becoming a bit of a tradition on Fridays for me to post just a few of my many failed attempts from photo shoots with my active girl Eddy. Not one to break tradition, I'll now share some far less than ideal pictures of Eddy the Flash herself

Sitting still is so overrated.

Honestly.

I give up.

My furbabies and I want to wish everybuddy a wonderful Friday!

Our Tip of the Day:
Allergy season is upon us, so I've decided to dedicate a couple of tips on how our furbabies can be affected by allergies. Today, first and foremost, I'll focus on some examples of symptoms you might see if your furbaby suffers from seasonal allergies. Keep an eye out for red and itchy skin or eyes, discharge or excess moisture from the eyes, sneezing, excess scratching or licking (especially of the ears, face, and feet), and snoring or other abnormal respiratory sounds or signs. As I'm sure many of us know firsthand, allergies can make you feel under the weather and uncomfortable. Therefore, if you see your furbaby manifesting any of the aforementioned symptoms, or any other concerning signs this time of year, it might be time to have a discussion with your veterinarian.

I love the smell of coffee, but think it tastes awful, no matter what. My husband drinks the stuff black... IMHO this is just another example of opposites attracting.

I was a vet tech, too. As a child, I wanted to be a nurse or a vet. Being a vet tech combined it for me. I loved it. I have done rescue for over 35 years, so I guess that has used all of my skills. It is very rewarding. Thanks for joining us today!

We enjoyed your fill-ins this week. The mom says she didn't like the taste of coffee at first...but learned to like it, though she really doesn't drink a lot of it.

Great answers in your fill-ins. I thought about being a vet too but couldn't afford all the schooling that it took. It is a hard job like said dealing with all the sick animals. Hope you have a great week end.

Thank you for participating in the fill-ins. I love your answers. I understand how you feel about seeing furbabies sick and euthanized, I could never even have been a tech. It is sad how kids don't know how to have real fun anymore, all those things you did as a child sound wonderful. I love those photos of Eddy, she really does look like the flash with tat movement.
Sammy had the sneezies a few weeks ago and Prancie seems to have them for half the year. She is allergic to everything and she pulls the fur off her tummy. We give her kid's Benadryl when it is really bad.
Enjoy your bbq- sounds like a good time.

I so agree with you on number one! Kids are missing out on all the wonderful experiences we cherish as memories and adults hardly even communicate anymore. A week away from electronics is a wonderful idea each year, maybe a week every. month? :-). Memorial Day and cookouts go together! I understand about working as a vet, when I visit a shelter I want to take them all home! It hurts my heart to see furbabies just waiting and hoping for love and a forever home. I can't drink coffee either, I love the smell of it brewing, but it makes me nauseous in any form, I've been told that I am allergic to it. I love tea though, hot in the winter and iced all year long!

Love your fill in answers. It definitely seems like a different world to grow up in today. And if I'd told myself 10 years ago that I would be a coffee drinker today, I would've thought myself crazy! Granted, it's definitely sweetened up!

I enjoyed your answers and agree with #1. Wherever you go, so many people have their noses permanently stuck in their iPhones and tablets instead of talking to each other.

You don't like coffee???!!! I just don't think we can be friends anymore. Just kidding :)

As a little girl I wanted to be a vet too. Then I lost my childhood cat to a brain tumor and I realized I could never witness that suffering every single day. Now in hindsight I wish that I had pursued it after all.

Great answers! If I had to answer #1, I'd have to say "the years." My nephew just turned 24 -- I remember when I could hold him laying flat on by forearm. :)

We love coffee here, but it's not for everyone.

Love, love, love the Eddy fun pics!

TW is with Melissa. She loves the taste of coffee any way she can get it. Pop likes the smell but not the taste.

I used to feel the same way about coffee, but now I'm kind of addicted. In fact, I just realized I was out of coffee and panicked. LOL

P.S.: I plan to send you some pictures this weekend. The week got away from me a bit.

Loved reading your fill-ins. I too HATE coffee. My husband is a coffee fanatic. When we redid our kitchen he had to have this huge built-in machine that makes every kind of coffee drink you could want. I think the stuff smells like the stink the skunks leave when they spray in our yard. Ah, for simpler times. I grew up in the 50s when we went outside to play the moment we got home from school...when TV, if you had one, only had three channels and was in B&W, and unless you were rich, you had a party line on your telephone. I have always loved to color and have continued to do it through the years, but am now spending more time at it as there are so many great coloring books from which to choose. I think for those of us who are in our senior years, it is easier to embrace life without being obsessed with technology; though, I am not so old that I could live without it. I hope to participate in the fill-ins this next Friday. Hugs, janet
