Mancat Monday: Let There Be Light

It's Evan's favorite day of the week, Mancat Monday. On this particular Mancat Monday, though, Evan has a bit of a problem.

You see, his silly human of a mother is refusing him an open door. See that door behind him, all shut up and closed? How can a boy chillax in the sun if his beloved door is closed?

Evan says his mom's reason for the current closed door policy is just silly. You see, it's almost September, with autumn just around the corner, and that obviously means it's the perfect time for 95 degree Fahrenheit weather. And when that giant ball of light in the sky shines in through Evan's beloved door, it more or less turns the entire front of the house into an oven. Believe it or not, that prompts this human to shut the door before all those inside melt. Evan, to put it simply, finds this thoroughly unacceptable.

We hope all of you have a wonderful Monday! And Evan hopes all of his furiends out there get to enjoy lots of sun puddles today, without the interference of silly humans like his mom!

(P.S. For those who might not know or might not remember, Evan's unique pose in the above pictures is due to the fact that his hind limbs were paralyzed in a coyote attack that killed his mom cat and litter mates when he was just 6 weeks old. The above pose is one of his favorites, and he is very proud of it.)

Our Tip of the Day:
Have you ever wondered why your kitty tends to seek out warm places, such as sun puddles, a fireplace, or perhaps even near the oven or stove? Well, there are a number of potential reasons for this. It can stem from the fact that as kittens they need their mother's body heat to maintain their own, or it can result from instinct telling them to find a warm place to sleep so that their body will not have to waste energy maintaining its own heat during a nap, or it can simply be a remnant of the fact that most domesticated kitties stem from a desert cat ancestry. So, there are a number of potential reasons why our kitties seek out warmth. All of that being said, it is always important to be observant of how well your kitty seems able to keep warm. Kittens and older cats may have an especially hard time maintaining their body warmth, and so access to sun puddles, warm blankets, and other warm yet safe places to sleep are important. At the same time, though, always be aware and cautious of your kitty's tendency to gravitate towards heat. Overall, cats' sensory receptors are not as sensitive to heat as our own, which is why they can be more susceptible to overheating or attaining injuries from fireplaces or other open flames, ovens, and stoves. So, do be sure that your kitty has access to warm sleeping spots, but at the same time please make sure that all dangerous sources of heat are off limits to kitty.

Hi Even, we love that pose.. And love that look on your face, as to just why is the door shut. He is just too cute. He is so lucky to have found you. You all have a great day.

Oh gosh, that's no fun that the door is closed. Maybe you can reach some kind of compromise with your human to leave it open for an hour or so before it heats up. You are a cutie!

Oh Evan, how could she possibly do that to you. The shame of it all. You need to get even pal.

Poor Evan, that is not right. Great tip, in the winter we have heating pads and heated blankets set on low for the kitties.

Evan, humans have such silly rules! Tell her to open that door...sun or no sun!

Our mom is the same way with that glorious blazing sun coming through our windows that face east.

Psst!!! Evan! The same thing happens at my house!!! My mean Mommy lets me have the door open for about an hour after we get us, then she closes it as soon as the sun starts coming in. What party poopers!!! --Mudpie

Evan, that happens at our house, too! Closed curtains and doors when it's hot ... not fun. And by the way, we love that pose of yours, pal. :)

Thank you, Mom Lorianne, for the thoughtful and detailed comment on our Zoe update post. She's doing very well today. Her sister Gracie has been hissing at her, because she has that "stayed overnight at the vet" smell. We've set up the Feliway diffusers, and keep rubbing them both with the same towel. :)

Zoe has a follow up visit on Saturday morning. We'll let you know what the vets say.

Hugs!

Oh we understand your irritation. Our Mom has done that to our sunporch ALL summer! We have talked her into opening the drapes by our cat tree now which is soooo much better!

Hmmm ... I think you should go on strike, Evan. At least until she opens the door for you! Then again, my schemes always get me grounded so taking my advice just might cause you trouble ... ~Bear Cat

Evan, you look adorable even when you are perturbed at Mom! It will get cooler before too long (hopefully) and maybe the door will open again.
