Festive Friendly Fill-Ins

Hello and happy Friday! Are you ready for the Friendly Fill-Ins? We sure are. Feel free to join in on the fun! My co-host Ellen of 15andmeowing came up with the first two fill-in statements, and I came up with the second two.

My answers are below in bold.

1. My favorite holiday film is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

(This movie is festive, funny, and oh so relatable. After all, nothing says Christmas like mass amounts of family dysfunction.)

2. My favorite Christmas song is "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas".

(To be honest, this song is probably my second favorite, with "Carol of the Bells" as my all-time favorite. But, I wanted to give the hippo song its time to shine here, because especially in recent years, this here grown woman has realized how much she really enjoys this silly little song and singing along with it. The song makes little to no sense, and perhaps neither does my liking for it, but there you go.)

3. If you ask me, 'tis the season for humility.

(I really struggled to find the right answer for this one, and to properly word it. I don't know if I actually succeeded, but the point I'm making is that commercialism and all that jazz shouldn't be the reason for the season.)

4. Having to explain to a child why Santa left a little girl on her rooftop is a holiday memory I'll never forget.

(I'm sure this makes no sense, so let me try to explain as briefly as I can. During my school years, my primary jobs were pet-sitting and babysitting, which kept me surprisingly busy. One Christmas season, one of the little girls I babysat for many years wanted to watch Frosty the Snowman, and so we did. If you've ever seen Frosty the Snowman, you might remember that at the end of the movie, the main little girl has to hitch a ride home with Santa. So what does the jolly old man do? He drops her off on her roof and flies away. At seeing that, the little girl I was babysitting nearly burst into tears and said, "He left her on the roof! How is she going to get inside?" Trying not to laugh or make the poor child panic, I tried to really coolly tell her that the little girl Santa abandoned in a dangerous situation would be safe, and perhaps with a little of Santa's magic, she could climb into her window or sneak down the chimney. I think the girl bought it. That, or she's now scarred for life. Thanks a lot, Frosty and Santa.)

Today, Eddy is sharing a photo from Christmas past.

That's yet another photo of Eddy with her beloved Christmas tree in my bedroom. This weekend, though Eddy is a saboteur when it comes to this, I'm really going to try to make her Christmas tree look as nice as it did here, three years ago. Eddy is very hard on this tree, and it's seen many, many better days. But, Eddy seemed to love having her tree this prim and proper and festive, and so I'm going to see if I can't resurrect this poor thing.

Tip of the Day

A series of tips on Christmas tree safety simply would not be complete without a comment or two on tinsel. Long story short, please do not use tinsel if you have furbabies in your life. This stringy stuff can be quite tempting to kitties, for example, but it can also be extremely dangerous. If consumed, it can cause problems such as gastrointestinal obstruction or laceration. Keeping that in mind, if your furbaby does swallow tinsel and you find some hanging from their mouth or even their anus, do not pull on it, as this can cause even further internal damage. If you find yourself in a situation such as this, seek veterinary care as soon as possible. Again, though, to prevent such incidents, it is highly recommended that you simply do not use tinsel as part of your Christmas decorations.
