Friendly Fill-Ins

Hello and happy Friday, friends! We sort of took a little blogging break during this week, but now we're ready to start getting back on track. So, let's jump right back into things with the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, shall we? Feel free to join in on the fun! My co-host Ellen of 15andmeowing came up with the first two fill-in statements, and I came up with the second two.


1. A week without _________ would be nice.

2. A week without _________ would be impossible.

3. I didn't plan to _________, but I'm glad I did.

4. I once _________ and lived to regret it.

My answers are below in bold.

1. A week without work would be nice.

(Who else is ready for a vacation? Actually, I'm all about those staycations. A week chillaxing on my couch? Yes, please and thank you.)

2. A week without my kitties and pup would be impossible.

(This is just one reason why I will always choose staycations over vacations. Not only am I simply just a homebody who doesn't like traveling in general, but I hate being away from my furbabies.)

3. I didn't plan to adopt a fourth cat, but I'm glad I did.

(After I adopted Eddy, who was the third kitty I adopted on my own as an adult, I didn't really plan on getting anymore cats for awhile. Then a feral cat that my grandma fed for years gave birth to a litter of kittens. And that's the very short story of how I gained myself a sweet and sassy little calico kitten named Tonks. From that same litter came my sister's cat Winky and my parents' cat Flitwick. Tonks and her siblings will be turning 4 years old this year, and I'm very grateful for all of them.)

4. I once helped a neighbor trim a shrub in her yard and lived to regret it.

(Said neighbor was a nice old lady, and she accidentally tugged on a tree branch I was working near and poked me right in the eyeball with it. The branch actually scraped part of my cornea from my eye. This happened something like 8 years ago, and the scar on my cornea still flares up, especially in the cold, dry winter. My newest optometrist just recently diagnosed me with recurrent corneal erosion, and when he found out how I got the corneal damage, he couldn't hide a laugh as he said, "No good deed goes unpunished, huh?" This new doctor put me on a new kind of eye drop as well as gave me a new glasses prescription that better accounts for the way the corneal scarring has changed the curvature of my eyeball, both of which have helped my eyes immensely.)

We mentioned recently how Eddy actually cooperated for a photo shoot the other day. Today we have a preview from that photo shoot.

That's an amazingly non-blurry photo from Eddy, but it's nothing compared to some of the other adorable shots this girl actually let me snap of her. Prepare yourself for lots of non-blurry Eddy cuteness in the next few weeks!

Tip of the Day

Today's National Cat Health Month tip is one we already gave recently, but that we'll repeat yet again because it can be very important for your kitty's health. And this tip is to keep up with those preventatives. Typically recommended for monthly administration, different forms of prevention can, of course, prevent a variety of health concerns. For example, flea prevention can help keep your kitty free from flea infestations, flea bites and related dermatitis, bloodborne diseases that can be contracted from fleas, and other issues that arise from a kitty having fleas. Especially depending on your cat's lifestyle, such as if they go outdoors, administering prevention for parasites such as tapeworms and roundworms can also be beneficial. If infested, various intestinal worms can lead to issues such as diarrhea and weight loss, among others. Also don't forget the concern of heartworms, which can stem from mosquitoes. Heartworms can be a very dangerous parasite that can affect the heart and lungs, so preventing this is of course something significant to consider. Prevention is something to always consider for keeping your kitty happy and healthy. That being said, do always still discuss this with your veterinarian, who can help you determine your kitty's risk for certain parasites, and which preventatives might be best or safest for your kitty.
