Mancat Monday: Interrupted Naps and Sanitary Shaves

Hello and happy Monday, friends! Well, Evan's not so sure it's happy. You see his back legs in this here photo? Well, whatever you can see of them past that floofy tail of his?

The shaved hair on Evan's little paralyzed back legs is starting to grow in again. That means he's due for his next grooming session. This poor boy will likely get pulled out of a nice nap for this assault. How rude, huh?

For anyone who might not know or might not remember, Evan is not only hind limb paralyzed, but he's also urinary incontinent. He also struggles with bouts of both constipation and diarrhea, all likely relating back to his hind limb paralysis. All of those things together have led to him needing regular sanitary shaves on his back end in order to stay his most hygienic, healthy self. And today is one of those days.

Evan hopes you all have a Monday filled with far less interrupted naps and sanitary shaves than his Monday!

Tip of the Day

In case you missed it, we're doing a series of pet cancer prevention tips during this Pet Cancer Awareness Month. Today's tip is one we've mentioned one more occasion than one, and is one that many of you have probably heard. This tip is to always keep in mind that it is indeed possible for cats and dogs to get skin cancer, especially on vulnerable parts of the body, such as the ears and nose. For this reason, monitor the amount of time they spend outdoors in the sun, but also the amount of time they spend sunbathing in windows or doors. If your furbaby does spend a lot of time in the sun, perhaps look into pet-friendly sunscreen, and discuss safe options with your veterinarian as needed. There are also windows or window films that block out UV light, which is another option for keeping our furbabies and their skin safe during their sunbathing sessions. The sun can indeed be fun, but it can also be dangerous, so do keep a close eye on those furry sunbathers.

Evan is such a cutie. I never noticed how fluffy his tail is. Nice drawing and great tips. XO

Poor little guy. So brave. I never noticed his impressive tail either.

Evan, it's not fun but it's for the best, and if you'd let your mama do it, the interruption would be less drastic.
