Guest Selfies Galore

Do you all remember this selfie sneak peek that we shared with you all last week?

As we mentioned last week, this selfie is that of a sloth my sister met recently while she was on vacation. The sloth you see here is named Slow, and she lives at Zoo World in Panama City Beach, FL. Slow is quite the selfie pro.

The apple doesn't far from the tree, either.

Also a proficient at posing for selfie's is Slow's daughter, Chica.

Chica's father, a sloth named none other than Molasses, or Mo for short, is also not opposed to posing for a selfie or two.

Woops. Perhaps Mo there wasn't quite ready for that one to be snapped?

Luckily, he tried again, and even posed with a snack.

This family of sloths, that being Slow, Mo, and their daughter Chica, were some of the many animals who hunkered down with their handlers and rode out Hurricane Michael. Luckily, all of the animals and humans of Zoo World were unharmed in the hurricane.

My sister of course visited more than just the sloth family while at Zoo World. Though they were not all that open to snapping true selfies, she met Lynne and Valentina, mother and daughter giraffes.

My sister also met quite an escape artist of a baby pygmy goat.

Apparently, this little goat is so tiny that she is capable of squeezing out of her stall at night and thereby gets to roam free in the barn. I guess that means she has no curfew. What a rebel.

Though not all of them were open to posing for the camera, my sister made a lot of furry, and not-so-furry, friends that day. She met lemurs, a black bear, an ostrich, alligators, and so many more. Outside of Zoo World, she even met some dolphins. I myself am a huge fan of dolphins, so that sounds like a dream to me. Photos were not allowed at the dolphin meet-and-greet, though, so we don't have any dolphin selfies to share today.

Our Tip of the Day:

We're still in the midst of our National Pet Diabetes Awareness Month tips. On this topic, yesterday we discussed observing your furbaby and knowing visible signs of illness. In addition to this, if your furbaby has been diagnosed with diabetes, consider monitoring their blood glucose at home. This is of course not always an option, depending on the furbaby and the situation. But, if it is possible, do discuss this with your veterinarian. Your veterinarian can help you learn how to safely check your kitty or pup’s glucose at home, which can be done simply using a vein in your kitty or pup's ear and the same type of glucometer a human would use. If nothing else, of course it is advisable to take a diabetic furbaby to the vet for regular glucose and/or fructosamine checks, as well as frequent urinalyses, especially in the early stages of their diabetes treatment.

Guest Selfie Sneak Peek

My sister (who just so happens to be the human mom to our housemates Toby and Winky) has been on a fun little vacation for the past week. While on vacation, she met some new friends. Next Sunday we'll be sharing lots of selfies and some information on these new friends she made. For today, though, we're going to leave you with a little sneak peek.

Here in the US, Thanksgiving is coming up on Thursday. Obviously, that means you'll be seeing some turkey doodles over the next couple of days. After all, 'tis the season.

Our Tip of the Day:

Surely I'm not the only one who always feasts on some green bean casserole for the holidays? If green bean casserole is on your Thanksgiving table, keep in mind what all ingredients are used to make it before you let your furbaby try some. A lot of green bean casseroles involve potentially dangerous ingredients, especially after you add the classic mushroom soup and onions on top. The onions themselves are of course a hazard, as are added sodium and other ingredients that sneak their way in there. For this reason, it is likely best to hold off on sharing green bean casserole with your kitty or pup. That being said, though, if you have plain green beans to serve, those can make a great and nutritious treat for that furbaby in your life!

Sunday Selfies with Some Special Guests

My furbabies have been quite busy lately, posing for photos and Halloween drawings, begging for early Halloween treats, having all sorts of costume partiea and enjoying nip punch all through the night, all that jazz. Busy, busy, busy. That's why they asked for a day off, and I granted them that, because I'm just that pawesome of a mom. Well, that, and because I have some backup guest selfies already lined up for this Sunday Selfies blog hop, hosted by our furiends over at The Cat on My Head.

Cutting to the chase, I recently found out that a couple towns over from where I live is a wildlife park. It was started by a local family just last year, and it's called the Aikman Wildlife Adventure. Obviously, I had to see the beautiful animals for myself, and so I made my way out there just last weekend. And you know what? I got my fair share of willing selfie participants from some mighty stunning creatures!

Don't worry, I got a kitty selfie, too.

Zzzzzzzz.

I won't lie, this isn't even all of the selfies I gathered at the wildlife park last weekend.You wouldn't believe how photogenic and camera savvy these new furiends of mine were! That being said, I'm keeping a few of the selfies in my back pocket, you know, for a rainy day or something of the sort.

But, I'm still not quite done yet. I do have two more creatures to share with you. These are of a different sort, though. You see, today's prompt for JNW's Halloween Challenge is none other than creature. I think this might have been the hardest drawing for me to work my way through. It came down to the fact that I wanted my angel Rosie to star in one of the Halloween drawings, and I wanted hers to have some sort of special meaning. I just couldn't pick which word throughout this month's prompts fit her best, though.

Ultimately, for Rosie I chose this one, creature. Why? Because some of Rosie's favorite toys were in the shapes of some rather interesting creatures. One of her favorites in her older years was this red and yellow bug-like thing. I don't even know what compelled me to bring it home from the store for her one day, as, I'll be honest, it was quite ugly. Another one of her favorites was, I believe, supposed to be a cow. But, I myself have never seen a pastel pink and blue and yellow cow with three horns and a bell on its tail, so I could be wrong.

Anyway, I saw the prompt creature and ultimately what came into my head was how much my sweet Rosie loved to torment those weird little creature toys of hers, especially when you got her high on catnip first. So, that's when this happened:

Our Tip of the Day:

Have you ever been to an animal sanctuary of some sort where they ask you to please keep your hands to yourselves, to not pet the animals? Although I know how disheartening these sort of instructions can be for animal lovers, they are in place for a reason, and most often a good one. Not only is there the factor of your physical safety, but also the fact that certain diseases can pass from animal to animal on the mere hand or even clothes of a human. There are diseases that can be transferred from animals within the same species, and those that can infect animals even of different species. This is why some shelters, whether it be one for dogs or cats or something more exotic, ask that you please not pet the animals. They do this both for the safety and health of yourself and the animals there, as well as for any animals you might be seeing later that day, even your own furbabies. So, although it might seem disheartening or even irritating to be told to keep your hands to yourselves at an animal sanctuary, please understand that it is for a good reason. A healthy animal is a happy animal, and sometimes they are best kept healthy and happy if we keep our hands to ourselves.
