Thoroughly Poetic Thankful Thimble Thursday

Hello, everybuddy! We hope you all have been having a wonderful week so far. We sure have. One reason is that we all love autumn around here, and this stupendous season is starting to make an appearance here. The air is cool and crisp, windows have been open, and we are all loving it!

In other news, it's time for the Thoroughly Poetic Thursday challenge, hosted by Angel Sammy and Teddy!

We have really, truly been enjoying this challenge each week. This here human is far from a poet and never really practiced this form of writing before starting on this challenge. Now, though, we are really having fun with it!

This week we're of course continuing with our usual poetic theme. That means we have someone to introduce to you today...

Mudpie the Magician

There is magic in everyone.
Who knows this better than anyone?
Mudpie the Magician, that’s who!
When it comes to magic, there is nothing she can’t do.
Mudpie the Magician has more than one trick up her sleeve.
She can make even a cynic believe.

Oh, are you in need of a kerchief?
Mudpie will pull one from your pocket, what a relief!
Or she could pull a kerchief from your nose.
That’s always a favorite at her shows.

Now, would you care to pick a card from this deck?
Mudpie will find it in less than a sec.
My goodness, there’s a rabbit in Mudpie’s hat.
Me oh my, look at that!
But those tricks are just the beginning.
Mudpie’s full show will really have you grinning.

So, tell us, what would you like to see?
Mudpie’s magic can evoke boundless glee.
Perhaps you’d like Mupdie to whip out her wand,
And summon those stars up above and beyond?
Such a lovely light show that can make.
After all, Mudpie the Magician is certainly no fake.

You can visit the fantastic, real-life Mudpie by clicking on her name there! (By the way, isn't Mudpie such an adorable name? We love it!) And of course here is Mudpie the Magician's little doodle.

Now, of course, it's Thimble's turn to let you know what she's been up to. As we mentioned a bit earlier in this post, we've been having us some lovely autumn weather. For Thimble, cool and crsip weather means some extra frisky playtime and, of course, window whiffies!

Can you guess what Thimble is entering into Brian's Thankful Thimble Thursday Blog Hop?

Those window whiffies, of course! Thimble is very grateful for open windows on these lovely days. We're all thankful for autumn, our favorite season. Of course, we're also so very thankful for so much else in our life, including our family and friends, like all of you!

Our Tip of the Day:
We have one more tip to share regarding how to minimize allergens in the home, especially if your furbaby or yourself are known to have allergies and asthma. Allergens can exist year round, in any season, so a regular schedule for cleaning can help prevent a build-up of allergens in the home. Cleaning may not always be the funnest thing to do, but, as we've mentioned, allergens can be introduced into the home through open windows and doors, on our clothes, and of course on our feet and those of our furbabies. For this reason, regular dusting and vacuuming can really help to keep those allergen invaders at bay. It is also beneficial to regularly launder bedding as well as other blankets and pillows throughout the home, both yours and your furbaby's. This not only helps eliminate the outdoor allergens that enter the home, but also dander and the like. So, while cleaning of course may not be the most fun chore, it can help both you and your furbaby breathe easier!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

Our Doodle of the Day:

This doodle here gets a bit of an explanation. It is a lot like some drawings we've shared in the past, but this one was created specifically for a little boy in need of some encouragement. One of my cousins is married to the sister of a war veteran, and one of his sons has had a number of health issues since birth. Most recently, he has been put in a full-leg cast, and he is devastated. One of the things that brings him joy is getting mail, so I am one of many people who has been sending him little cards like this one here. Oh, and this pup is based off of the service dog the little boy's dad has to help him cope with PTSD. They're a family full of heroes, if you ask me.

I also made another doodle of the little boy himself. I'll share that here as well.

Our Tip of the Day:
To continue on with our tips for keeping allergens out of the home, don't forget that both us and our furbabies make great vehicles for allergens to travel wherever they please. When we go outside, we're walking through all sorts of pollen, dust, and other such goodies. So, to keep those allergies or asthma in check this autumn, or throughout the entire year, consider how freshening up after time outdoors might help minimize the entrance of allergens into the home. Wipe or take off shoes upon entering the home, and even perhaps change into different clothes, especially if you've been outdoors for a long period of time or have been doing activities such as gardening. Even our hair can be ridden with allergens after being outdoors, so a quick clean of that might be in store if your furbaby or yourself is known to have allergies or asthma. Of course, don't forget that furbabies who go outdoors might also be afflicted by allergens in the same way. So, upon returning home, even consider wiping down furbaby fur and feet to help rid them of any pesky allergens.

Not So Tabby Tuesday

If you were here for our Sunday Selfies post, you might remember that model Thimble got photobombed by a certain mancat named Toby. That being said, Toby asked if he could have a post all to himself, so that he didn't have to resort to photobombing. So, here's the fuzzy boy himself!

Toby is quite proud of his whiskers. I can't really blame him, though, as they are quite impressive.

Do any of our furiends have wonderful whiskers they like to share? We bet lots of you do!

Happy Tuesday to all!

Our Tip of the Day:
Especially for the benefit of those furbabies with allergies and asthma, we've mentioned keeping fallen leaves raked up so as to prevent a build-up of allergens and mold, as well as keeping windows closed so as to help prevent allergens from entering the home. Today we're going to share another similar, simple tip, and that is to consider investing in an air purifier. Air purifiers essentially capture allergens and thereby help keep air fresh and clean, and can therefore help reduce allergies and asthma. This can be of benefit to both furbabies and humans alike, so do consider this option if allergies and asthma are trying to run your life!

Happy Labor Day!

We would like to wish all of our friends in the United States a happy Labor Day!

We hope your day is full of lots of sun puddles, plenty of snuggles, and of course a snooze or two.

And of course for all of our pals outside of the United States, we wish you a magnificent Monday!

Our Tip of the Day:
We've been talking about how to keep your furbaby healthy and happy in the autumn. Today is a tip that we believe you've heard from us before, but it's a quick, simple, and easy one. To prevent autumn allergens from entering your home, especially for the sake of those furbabies known to suffer from allergies and asthma, consider keeping windows and doors closed. It is indeed tempting to open those windows when the weather is nice, but of course remember that forces such as the wind can blow allergens into your home through open windows and doors. So, if this puts your furbaby's health and comfort at risk, then do consider keeping those allergens locked out of your home.

Sunday Selfies Interrupted

Hello and happy Sunday! We are of course all ready for the Sunday Selfies blog hop, hosted by our good pals over at The Cat on My Head.

Thimble was all for being our selfie model this week. She had her photo shoot location picked out and was all ready. But, do you know what happened? She was photobombed.

That's right. Do you see Toby there? He's sort of hard to miss. He's our housemate, as he owns this human's sister, who lives with us. He is also Thimble's biological brother, and a professional photobomber.

Boys. Can't live with them. And, well, can't live with them.

Are there any other professional photobombers out there? Come on, it's okay to admit it. Surely Toby isn't the only the one.

We're wishing everybuddy a superb Sunday!

Our Doodle of the Day:

We have another one of our experimental cardboard necklaces to share with you today.

We don't know how useful these little pieces really are, but we're sure having fun doodling them up.

Our Tip of the Day:
We mentioned yesterday some of the potential outdoor seasonal dangers, such as acorns and even fallen leaves. During the autumn months, one obvious way to prevent your furbaby from getting into trouble with these is by keeping those leaves raked up. Raking may not always be fun, but that autumnal layer of leaves on the ground can harbor various issues, mold being one of these. Not only could mold lead to possible intestinal distress if leaves are consumed by your pup or kitty, but mold can also be an allergen and can cause respiratory effects. Mold is just one allergen that fallen leaves can harbor, though, and these allergens can even stay with your furbaby on their paws and coat and thereby continue to bother them later. Of course, a layer of leaves can also hide other potential dangers, such as sharp sticks. So, to prevent potential injury as well as to soothe allergies and asthma, it might be best for your furbaby’s health to simply ensure those leaves are all raked up. If that is not possible, though, or if you find yourself at a location thick with fallen leaves, perhaps simply try to keep your furbaby from walking through or playing in the leaves. Autumn can be a beautiful time of year, but that doesn’t mean it’s without potential dangers.

The Key to Caturday Art

If you read our Thoroughly Poetic Thursday poem, you might remember Laila the Librarian. Did you know, though, that Laila didn't start out as a librarian? While she ultimately found her calling as a librarian, she first tested the waters of an entirely different line of work.

That's right, Laila first tried her hand paw at being a locksmith! She gave it a shot, but she had a change of heart and later went on to become a librarian.

In all honesty, this here human indeed had Laila all lined up to be a locksmith this past Thursday for the fun weekly poetry challenge. Then, though, I realized that librarian indeed begins with L, and so plans simply had to change. We love us some books over here, so that settled that. We thought we'd share Laila's locksmith illustration for today's Caturday Art blog hop, though, so that you could all see Laila's original career plans.

I figured this little doodle went well with one of my favorites quotes as well, so then I added a couple of words to spruce it up a bit.

Do any of friends have any favorite inspirational quotes they want to share? Of course, favorite quotes about kitties and pups are more than welcome, too!

Now, do be sure to visit Athena to see the artistry of all of our furiends!

Happy Caturday to all!

Our Tip of the Day:
Beware of seasonal dangers while on walks with pups or kitties. In the autumn, this can mean acorns, which not only pose risks such as choking or obstruction, but which can also lead to further complications of the gastrointestinal tract or kidneys. Even eating fallen leaves could pose a risk, such as if they are harboring any mold that might upset the gastrointestinal tract. Also be careful of other typical dangers, such as sticks that have fallen from the trees as they prepare for winter, as these can also cause choking as well as obstruction or perforation of the bowels. Of course, being cautious for such things is a year-round duty, but do be aware of the different additional risks that come with each season.

Birthday Bash and Then Some

To begin this post, we're going to wish a very special and beloved girl a happy birthday.

Happy birthday, sweet Angel Rosie! You are missed each and every day, but we know you are having lots and lots of fun at the Rainbow Bridge with all of your angel friends. Hugs and kisses and lots of love to you, Angel Rosie!

Rosie would have been 24 years old today. I was blessed to have 21 years with her on this earth, and while I do indeed miss her every single day, I do feel peace in knowing that she is now eternally young and healthy. Until we meet again, my sweet Rosie.

The birthday bash continues on, but we of course still have time for one of our favorite events of the week, which is the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge!

This fun challenge is hosted by our wonderful friends over at 15andmeowing and McGuffy's Reader. This week's fill-ins are as fantastic as ever.

1. My favorite fictional character is _________.
2. A new TV show or film I am looking forward to this Fall is _________.
3. One of my very favorite books is _________.
4. The best time to _________ is _________.

I really had to think on these, and here's where all that thinking left me:

1. My favorite fictional character is Toothless.
(I love to read, and I love to watch TV and movies, so I have a lot of favorite characters. But, because the inner child in me is still alive and well, I will always love me some How to Train Your Dragon, which of course stars the dragon known as Toothless. I think what especially draws me to Toothless is that though he's a dragon, he is portrayed as having a personality that is very much like a mixture of a cat and a dog. Obviously, I love both cats and dogs, and therefore I love Toothless. Not just that, but Toothless serves as a cute example that you should never judge a book by its cover. Oh, and fun fact? I used to watch the How to Train Your Dragon movie all the time with my birthday angel Rosie, and she loved to watch the dragons flying around on the screen.)

2. A new TV show or film I am looking forward to this Fall is Bright.
(I'll be honest, I couldn't really think of any shows or movies that I'm really stoked about this Fall. I just the other day saw a trailer for the Netflix original movie called Bright, though, and it involves something along the lines of humans and creatures like orcs coexisting in the world. As a fan of fantasy, I'm certainly intrigued.)

3. One of my very favorite books is The Hobbit.
(I am a huge fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, something for which I can thank my Tolkien fan of a dad. I have mentioned on here before how my dad read The Hobbit to me when I was perhaps 3 or 4 years old, and I loved it. That is one of my earliest memories. I also grew up with a map of Middle-earth in my playroom. I am admittedly a huge fan of the fantasy genre, most certainly a result of growing up with a fantasy-loving father, and The Hobbit will always have a special place in my life. Thanks for that, Dad!)

4. The best time to act is now.
(I'm pretty sure I gave an answer almost identical to this in one of the past couple of weeks, but this is a sentiment that I do my absolute best to follow. We are never promised tomorrow. I figure, if you have a dream or a goal or anything of the like, why wait? Go for it!)

Now, it's time for Eddy! Our post yesterday was about some lovely little librarians, particularly one named Laila, and our very own Thimble. Eddy didn't want to be left out, though, and so she asked that I snap some shots of her in the library.

These were taken on the new phone this human has. That being said, this human has no idea how to change camera settings on that phone, so all blame on quality can be put on Eddy's momma.

Eddy also made sure to model our scholar kitty bookends in her library shots, of course. Her momma got these for Christmas last year and is quite fond of them, which means Eddy uses any chance she gets to try and shove those beloved bookends to the floor.

Happy Friday, furiends!

Now, guess what? After something like a month of doing our tips only weekly, we sort of miss doing them daily. We cut back on them for the sake of leaving time for some side endeavors on which we're working. But, we miss doing those daily tips, and we also found out that a number of you really did enjoy our daily tips, and that you found them helpful. That makes us happy to know, and so we're going to go back to doing daily tips. So that we don't feel like we're all over the place with them, though, we're thinking we might select certain themes for our tips. For example, starting today and lasting for a couple of weeks or so, we're going to try to give tips on keeping those pups and kitties healthy and happy in the Autumn. You may see repeat or similar tips as past ones here and there, but when it comes to keeping our furbabies safe and sound, we're willing to sound like a broken record. So, here it goes...

***
Our Tip of the Day:
Though Autumn is upon us, there very well may still be fleas and ticks and potentially even mosquitoes out and about, especially in certain areas where cool weather is no guarantee. Each of these buggers can potentially lead to a variety of medical issues, ranging from dermatitis to serious diseases of the blood or vital organs. So, please do consider keeping up on those preventative treatments in order to keep your furbaby healthy and happy. And also remember that not all such preventatives are created equal, so do be sure to go for reputable treatments, and of course discuss with your veterinarian which type would best suit your furbaby and his or her lifestyle.
