For today's
Sunday Selfie blog hop, hosted by our furiends over at
The Cat on My Head, my furbabies wanted to debut some of the first photos taken with their momma's new camera! A creature of habit, this human had always just kept to her same ol', perhaps slightly outdated camera. But now, for the first time in over a decade, I have a new camera. This is thanks to my furbabies' auntie (aka, my sister), who thought I was too far behind the times and so got me a pawesome new camera for my birthday last week. Thanks, sis!
As I've noted before, I'm far from a professional photographer, but I love this new camera. I'm slowly learning how to adjust these things called white balance and exposure, in order to take acceptable photos in any lighting. I'm still far from an expert, but I'm starting to get the hang of it...

And Evan, another guilty member of the obligatory window selfie party. |

Thimble just loves to help her mommy experiment with perspective and angles..."Is this my good side, Mom?" |

Eddy! |

And here's housemate Toby. This boy and his black fur will be the death of the photographer inside of me. |
Our selfies aren't done there, though! I was perhaps most excited to go visit my parents' kitties with my new flashy box in hand. This is because I often visit my parents and their kitties in the evening, which means that photo shoots with them tend to be after sundown. With my older, overworked camera, lack of natural sunlight typically always meant less than successful results. However, after getting my new camera, I headed over to my parents' house for an evening visit with their furbabies, and managed to snap shots of all four of their furbabies with not too terrible of results. Keeping in mind that my less than technologically inclined mind is still trying to grasp the full concept of white balance, exposure, and all those fun things, here are some long overdue selfies of the other furbabies in my life:
|
Here's Thimble's giant-sized twin brother, Trapper. |
|
Another of Thimble's brothers, Talon, is Mr. Active and gave me just this one barely successful selfie. |
|
Pretty tabby/tortie Freya so kindly posed in front of one of my dad's awesome fish tanks. But, she preferred a closed-eye selfie. |
|
Freya's sister Gemma, a pretty calico, is not a big fan of the camera. Can you tell? |
And so there you have it. Nine selfies. Whew. Thanks, sis, for the new toy that made this possible!
A very happy Sunday to all of our furiends!

Our Tip of the Day:
I've given tips on keeping a pet-friendy kitchen, bathroom, and study. Now, today, how about a couple of tips to ensure that your bedroom is pet-friendly? If you keep your shoes in your bedroom, keep them hidden away so as to keep your dogs, or even your cats, from chewing on them and getting themselves in trouble or in danger of intestinal blockage. The same would of course go for socks and any other potentially tempting items of clothing. Also be sure to keep small hair accessories and jewelry in a hidden location, so that curious paws and mouths can't play with or ingest them. Safety first!

Oh those pictures are just terrific. Isn't it fun to have a new camera. I remember when I got my new camera and now much fun I had and I still to have fun. Can't wait to see more pictures. Have a great Sunday.
Toby looks a lot like Mr. M, so I'm sure you understand why he rarely participates in Sunday selfies. Hope you have a lovely day.

New cameras are super fun! I think you are doing a great job! I especially love the one of Astrid - the lighting is perfect and I love the intensity in her eye
Great job with the new camera! Such wonderful selfies of your adorable gang, and your parents' kitties, too. :)
EXcellent selfies
Happy #sundayselfie.

You don't want some kitty or woofie horking in your shoe either. We loved every single selfie, and we are happy to meet your parents' kitties. They are all so sweet looking. It seems most animal bloggers eventually decide they need a better camera. We are lucky to have our photographer dad who has all the bells and whistles. If there is actually a decent photo on our blog, nine times out of ten dad has taken it. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Those are all gorgeous selfies ! You did a great job with your new camera ! Purrs
Great selfies, your new camera take excellent photos. I liked all your photos before, but I do see a difference in clarity with this one. Gemma is gorgeous, I would snatch her right up. I adore calicos and their personalities, sweet with a little grump :) I miss my Lucy so much as I know you miss your Rosie.
Great tip with the shoes. Another reason to keep them away is what they carry on them. Our cat Millie, loves to put our shoes on and nap in them, he had roundworms despite being indoors. We think it was from the garden dirt on my hubby's sneakers. Not positive, but that is the only place we can figure he would have gotten them.
Every one of your selfies are lovely. You are doing a great job with your new camera.
Your pictures look fine. You should not be so modest!!! We think all the portraits look realy fine, sharp and clear!
Well done!
Wow! Your pictures look awesome! You are doing great with your new camera. I wish I knew about white balance and exposure. I always use the auto setting, but I have learned that lots of light is key.
It was great to see your parents' kitties. It's been a while. Freya and Gemma are big now like Eddy. They're so pretty.
I'm in the market for a new camera so I would love to know what you got, especially for successful low light pictures!
Beautiful selfies! The mom got a new camera over a year ago and still doesn't know how to work it properly.
Those are some very nice pictures! Sometimes a new camera is hard ta get used to or has some odd commands that are tricky (like with our newest one, we can never find the Macro setting).
Happy Belated Birthday! Wow, a new camera is an excellent present. I loved seeing all the selfies. My boys seemed to have mastered the art of avoiding the camera very well. I have yet to get them in a picture together where they're both looking at the camera.
I know just what you mean about those black cats! My all-black Troy was very hard to photograph. If I didn't get the lighting right, he looked like a blob with eyes! One thing that does work (or it did for me) is to shoot in semi-bright light (no flash) with kitty on a black or brown background. You won't get the blowout from a bright background, and that can make fur details stand out!

So amazingly cute Selfies of all of you :) Your mommy did a purrfect job on them with her new camera. What a wonderful gift of her sis! Happy belated Birthday, MM. Enjoy your new... toy :D Double Pawkiss for the occasion :) <3
I'm so sorry I didn't respond to this before! My new camera is a Nikon Coolpix L830. Once my sister gave me a few tips, it's very user friendly, which is what I need. I am in love with this camera!
