Tasty Tuesday (#ChewyInfluencer)

It's that time of the month again. You know, the time of the month when we share our thoughts on products as part of Chewy.com's Blogger Outreach Program. Today it's none other than pup Astrid who is trying something new. And by new, I mean something that I was honestly really hesitant to try for her.

This month, Astrid tried out The Honest KitchenⓇ grain-free beef recipe dehydrated dog food. This food is made with real, human-grade beef and produce. It is grain-free, gluten-free, GMO-free, and contains no by-products, preservatives, corn, wheat, or soy.

There are two details about this food that had me worried about Astrid's reaction to it. For one, it is formulated with a healthy blend of produce. That sounds great, right? Not for Astrid. She hates healthy foods. All of them. Veggies ooze evil in Astrid's humble opinion. So, that had be mildly concerned. Also, I wasn't sure what Astrid might think of dehydrated food that required the addition of water for edibility. She is, after all, a very, very picky girl. But, I was curious to try something new, and therefore did my best to have hope.

So, I added water to the dehydrated food, let it soak for 3 minutes as instructed, and luckily had an audience.

Astrid has a good nose for foods she does not like, as well as for foods that she does like. If it doesn't smell like a good deal to her, she doesn't care to join me in the kitchen. If the smell appeals to her, she'll breathe down my neck. So, when she came in and awaited a taste, I felt a bit disproportionately thrilled.

Are you all waiting for Astrid's reaction? So was I.

Guess what?

She loves it!

The Honest KitchenⓇ dehydrated beef food was, surprisingly, a real hit with Astrid.

She even asked for a refill. And I obliged. That's a solid four paws up from Astrid for The Honest KitchenⓇ!

Our Tip of the Day:
We have yet more random safety tips for National Pet Poison Awareness Month. Today's tip is to keep that hand sanitizer out of the reach of your furbabies. Hand sanitizer contains alcohol, which means that, especially if ingested in large enough quantities, it can indeed lead to alcohol poisoning. More than likely, hand sanitizer will neither smell nor taste enticing to your kitty or pup. But, some furbabies may simply have strange or unprejudiced tastes, and so keeping any potentially toxic items out of their reach is of course crucial. Keep this in mind not only when it comes to hand sanitizer. Some items can contain toxic ingredients that you might not expect, and some furbabies might not be picky about what they put in their mouths. So, never leave anything questionable within their reach, because it is indeed always better to be safe than sorry.

Victory! I'm glad Astrid liked the new food. I have a picky eater, too, which is especially frustrating because she suffers from acid reflux. If she doesn't eat in the morning, she ends up vomiting (even though she's on medication for the reflux.) Some mornings, I practically do a song and dance just to get her into the kitchen!

YAY! Grain-free is certainly a better option for dogs AND cats....it's nice that your picky eater approved........

Hugs, Pam and Teddy too

Oh! WoW! That was a wonderful review of The Honest Kitchen dehydrated food! I will have to see if I can find it on my next trip down to the US. We (her Dad and I) have been making our own dog food since the 1990s. We were glad we did when there were all the issues with dog food in the early 2000s. But is not always possible to make food -- especially when traveling. We have a heck of a time getting Cinnamon to eat any commercial food. This will be something to try.
Thanks!
