Happy Easter!

If you celebrate the holiday, we hope you have a very happy and blessed Easter! If you do not celebrate it, have a wonderful Sunday! Either way, we do hope you enjoyed Toby's Easter selfies, which were admittedly taken a couple years ago. We are way past due for another Easter photo shoot.

***
Tip of the Day

Today's tip is an Easter-inspired one, and it is to always think twice before ever giving anyone an animal as a gift. This could include giving a bunny to a child for Easter, as well as giving a puppy as a Christmas gift, or a kitty as a birthday gift. Caring for any animal will of course take time, effort, knowledge, and preparation. What's more, some animals, such as rabbits, have special dietary or other needs. This is why taking on an animal as a pet should be done with forethought and preparation by the pet's new owner. Giving a child a rabbit for Easter, therefore, could lead to a rabbit ending up in a situation with lack of proper care, and an overwhelmed child or parents. The same goes for giving any animal as a gift, especially if the recipient has not made the proper preparations or does not have the resources to care for a pet. So, never forget that giving an animal a proper home with proper care is something that should always be discussed, researched, and for which the owner should sufficiently be prepared. We have no doubt that all of you reading this already know this.

The above being said, it's worth noting that if a responsible pet owner expresses a desire to receive a pet as a gift, that is a bit of a different story. Someone whom you know well, who is already a proven kind and caring pet owner, and who wants another animal, is someone who could more reasonably receive an animal as a gift. We bet there are plenty of wonderful pet owners out there who have received a best friend in this manner. The important thing is to think such a decision through wisely, and to consider whether an animal will for certain receive the proper care it needs and deserves from a potential recipient.

For reasons I've mentioned over the last couple of days, I'm a couple letters behind on the April A to Z Challenge. Though there's usually a small hiatus from the A to Z Challenge on Sundays, I'm sharing an alphabetical doodle today anyway.

As I've mentioned a few times plus one, for this year's April A to Z Challenge, since I love to write and am working on a series of books, I'm sharing A to Z doodles relating to my stories. Much like my usual doodles and weekly poems, the stories I write are weird, wacky, and star lots of animals. That leads us to today's letter, which is L. Honestly, what I have to share for the letter L is a bit timely for this Easter Sunday, at least to my brain.

L is for Lazarus

If you know a little about Easter, and if you know the story behind Lazarus, then maybe you'll get why I quite like how this backlogged doodle now falls on Easter. That said, the orange tabby there is Lazarus. He is named that for a reason. Let's just say that while most cats have nine lives, Lazarus has, well, lots more. Oh, and Lazarus is a library cat, as was briefly mentioned in our recent doodle for the letter I.

I mentioned on Thursday how my poems for the Thoroughly Poetic Thursday challenge will be part of my Sunday posts during the month of April. This is mostly because I'm participating in the April A to Z Challenge, and that challenge has a weekly hiatus on Sundays. So, to make things a bit less busy on Thursdays, our poems will be shared on Sundays instead.

Our poetic host Angel Sammy always shares a photo prompt to help guide us. The prompt for this week's poem was this daunting image here:

During the month of April, I'm giving myself one extra little challenge for my poems. Since I'm scribbling up 26 doodles for the A to Z Challenge, I'm not going to draw my usual new illustrations for my poems. Instead, I'm going to try to find past doodles to in some way match the photo prompt provided by our host. Then I'm going to write a poem at least sort of related to both the prompt and whatever flashback doodle I found to go with it. The past drawing I decided to use for this week's prompt and poem is this one from all the way back in 2019:

Using both our poetic host's prompt and that flashback doodle, I meandered my way through this silly little rhyme here:

To Each Her Own

Margo's friends sought grand adventure.
Near, there, far, and everywhere they would venture.
As for Margo, she preferred a more peaceful life.
Calm and simple days with her cat Ed are what made her feel most alive.

Watching her friends set off on a new journey never upset Margo.
It was her who chose to turn down trips to Mount Everest and even Key Largo.
This time around, Margo's friends were headed on a trip across cliffs and waterfalls.
In truth, that did not sound fun to Margo—not one bit, not at all.

As her friends prepared their hiking gear and kayaks,
"Are you sure you don't want to come along, Margo?" they did ask.
"I'm absolutely positive," Margo said.
"Ed will keep me company," she added with a smile and nod of her head.

"You're going to miss a great many adventures on waters galore."
That was what Margo's friends told her, and so much more.
"I can enjoy my very own adventures here at home," Margo said.
"I quite enjoy a peaceful trip across the lake," she added with another nod of her head.

After a few more attempts to convince Margo to join them,
Her friends finally admitted defeat and began to head out by 8:00 am.
"Don't worry about me," Margo said to her frowning friend Joan.
Margo added, "I just don't enjoy what you enjoy. To each her own."

After sending her friends off on their way,
"Would you like to go on our own little adventure, Ed?" to her cat Margo did say.
To the local lake not far away the two did walk.
Everything about the lake was serene and calm.
"This is much more my speed," Margo had to admit.
The girl and her cat stepped into a boat and set off with excitement and spirit.

On the lake, Margo and Ed floated and enjoyed the peace and quiet.
Those like Margo's friends found adventures to distant lands to be a riot,
While those like Margo enjoyed things far more simple and silent.
It does not matter how you prefer to spend your time away or at home.
In truth, to each his or her own.

Happy Easter!

That there is a flashback Easter doodle from 2018. We were perusing our Easter doodles the other day and decided we wanted to share it again as our Easter greeting this year. As it says...

HAPPY EASTER!

We also have an Easter selfie to share today, and just like our doodle above, it's a flashback. If we're being honest, this is not only a flashback selfie, but it's a flashback selfie we've shared for the past 2 or 3 years. Why? Because this is the only halfway decent Easter shot any of the furbabies have ever allowed me to snap. So, here's our resident pup, none other than Astrid, striking a festive pose.

Some Peeps also snapped a group selfie for this Easter Sunday. And no, we're not talking about those human peeps.

That's the main Easter dessert I make every year. I did not come up with this idea, for the record. I saw an image of this dessert somewhere online years ago, and I've made it every year since then. It's just pie crust on the bottom, chocolate pudding on top of that, and then a layer of whipped cream. The little field of bunnies includes Oreos crumbled up to look like dirt, coconut shreds dyed green to look like grass, pastel peanut M&Ms as Easter eggs, and then of course the bunny Peeps. No one in my family really even likes Peeps, but they're cute and serve their purpose. My sister usually ends up eating all of them.

Yet again, we want to wish you all a...

HAPPY EASTER!

Even though it's Easter, we're still also going to share our poem for this past week's Thoroughly Poetic Thursday challenge, hosted by Angel Sammy.

We're only sharing these poems on Sundays rather than on Thursdays during the month of April, since the April A to Z Challenge takes place every day except Sunday.

Now, our poetic host always shares a photo prompt to help us along. The prompt for this past week was this enchanting image here:

I definitely used this image as inspiration, but I also took some liberties with it. Longtime and regular visitors to our blog might remember me mentioning my joy for things like fantasy and Halloween. Perhaps that's why the mystical and magical nature of the image above immediately took my mind to a witchy sort of place. I of course had to throw a cat in there, and I even tried to work in a bunny cameo in honor of Easter. If you're interested in reading yet another weird and wacky poem of mine, here it is:

Familiar

Willa was a witch.
She worked magic like a seamstress worked a stitch.
Willa was not wicked, though.
She most certainly was not, no.

Willa enjoyed her life with magic,
But there was one thing she considered quite tragic.
She had spell books and potions galore,
None of which she found to be a bore.
She even had a happy white rabbit in a magical top hat.
What Willa did not have, though, was a cat.

What is life without a cat?
Every day, Willa wondered just that.
Witches were said to need magical familiars of the feline sort.
In truth, witches served cats like serfs served kings in royal court.
Willa wouldn't mind serving a cat of her own,
And she wished to find one before she was an old crone.

It was said that most witches found their familiar when the time was right.
Willa, though, she decided she would leave that tradition behind.
She wished for the companionship of a cat sooner than later,
And so right then and there she went to her most favorite chamber.

She found herself surrounded by potion bottles and books.
For what she needed, Willa knew exactly where to look.
She pulled from a shelf her clairvoyant crystal ball,
Which could see the darkest of secrets and reveal all.

Placing the crystal ball on a table by the moonlit window,
Willa watched as it began to sparkle and glow.
She said, "Are you awake, crystal ball?
I have a problem I hope you can solve."

The crystal ball replied with a whirling light inside.
"Make it fast. What do you want?" the crystal ball said with a sigh.
Willa smiled and replied, "I want a cat.
I cannot be a happy witch without that."

Tendrils of color spun and spit inside the crystal ball.
It said, "You want to know where to find your cat? Is that all?"
Willa nodded and practically touched her nose to the crystal.
She knew she could trust this item that was so mystical.

The crystal ball became filled with smoke of silver,
Which sparkled as if laced with glitter.
Willa knew exactly what that meant.
Once that smoke cleared, her answer would be present.

Willa sat at the edge of her seat.
She hoped her cat and its location was what she would see.
When the smoke finally began to thin,
Her lips twisted into a giant grin.

In the crystal ball indeed appeared a cat.
Willa was beyond relieved to see that.
It was even a cat with fur of ginger,
Having the same color of hair as her.

"But where are you?" Willa asked the crystal ball cat.
On a hill beneath a full moon in a starlit sky it sat.
Remembering the night sky she had earlier seen outside,
Willa turned to the window to bring the full moon into her sight.

Outside the window, the moon's glow filled the night.
But there was something even better about that sight.
The silhouette of a cat sat on the horizon, basking in the moonlight.
"Does this mean it's true, that a witch's cat will enter her life when the time is right?"

Willa ran from the chamber, to the front door, and into the night.
The smile on her face was, like the moon, big and bright.
The cat, no longer on the horizon, appeared just as happy to see her,
Given that it ran to her in the blink of an eye and a blur.

And just like that, Willa found the best friend she had always wanted.
She was finally a witch with a cat to whom she could feel bonded.
She picked up the cat and hugged its orange fur.
The cat accepted the affection with a meow and a purr.

Willa felt like she'd known the cat for ages,
Like they were old friends and not just familiar faces.
Willa told her furry friend, "You need a good, strong name, that's for certain.
Let me think. Oh, I know! We'll call you Merlin."

Happy Easter!

From all of us to all of you,
HAPPY EASTER!

Don't mind us, we're just over here waiting for the Easter Bunny.

We're also snacking on our annual Easter dessert. There's no better way to celebrate than with a sugar coma. Right?

We're also so blessed to be having a bright, shiny, and beautiful Easter weekend. That means we'll also be celebrating with some wonderful window whiffies.

We hope you all have a blessed Easter, filled with everything that brings you joy!

(That there Easter doodle also doubles as our illustration for the poem we shared this past Thursday. If you're interested in reading said poem, titled "Peter Cottontail, P.I.", just click here.)

Happy Easter!

HAPPY EASTER!

(Or happy Passover! Or happy whatever day you want it to be!)

I asked for at least one of the furbabies around here to snap a festive Easter selfie to share today. The only furbaby who was willing to sit still for the camera was, incredibly surprisingly, Eddy.

As you can see, though, this sunny shot is not a very festive selfie. Eddy was not into posing with any of our Easter props. That's why we're now going to do a throwback to last year's Easter selfie. This one stars none other than pup Astrid.

Both Eddy's non-Easter and Astrid's throwback Easter selfies are our contribution the Sunday Selfies blog hop, which is hosted by none other than the Kitties Blue of The Cat on My Head.

Today is not just Easter or the day of the Sunday Selfies, though. It's also the first day of the A to Z Challenge.

As I mentioned in a previous post, for this year's challenge, I am putting animal-inspired twists on the titles of classic novels, stories, and poems, and am then creating doodles to match those new titles.  Today, for the letter A, I was inspired by Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic novel Anne of Green Gables. But, for the challenge, this became Anne of Green Stables.

Stay tuned tomorrow to see what classic tale we warped for the letter B!

Have a blessed Easter and a stupendous Sunday, friends!

Easter Basket Bonanza

Have you gotten an Easter basket yet? If not, we have a bit of one for you. Here you go!

We hope you all are having a wonderful Easter (or Passover, or whatever you wish to celebrate!) weekend!

Of course, this Easter basket bonanza of a doodle is our entry into Athena's fun and fantastic Caturday Art blog hop.

Don't forget to visit Athena to see art created by all of our friends!

Our Tip of the Day:

Today is the last day of National Pet Poison Prevention Month. It also happens to be the day before Easter. So, we're mixing those two together and giving you a summary of what Easter items to keep away from your furbaby, so that they do not end up at the emergency clinic this holiday weekend.
First, keep those Easter lilies away from your kitties and pups! There are a number of lily types that are toxic to furbabies, Easter lilies being one of the most dangerous. Any part of the Easter lily can be toxic, even the pollen. Lily toxicity can lead to any number of life-threatening side effects, one of them being acute kidney failure. As you surely already know or can guess, it is simply safest to keep any and all lilies out of the home, well out of reach of your kitty or pup.

Other Easter goodies to keep away from your furbaby include chocolate, which is also toxic, as you all certainly already know. Don't forget the danger that other candies can pose as well, such as the sugar-free sort containing toxic xylitol. If you are giving or receiving Easter baskets that contain candies such as these, keep them well hidden away, so that hungry or curious furbabies cannot help themselves to a toxic snack.

It is also worth it to noting the danger of Easter grass. This stringy grass-like material often used as a filler in Easter baskets can be dangerous if ingested by a kitty or pup. It can lead to emergencies such as intestinal blockage, perforation, or laceration. Try not to use any such materials in Easter baskets. If you receive a basket with this dangerous fake grass material, keep it well out of your furbaby's reach and dispose of it safely.

Have a happy and safe Easter!

Good Friday Fun

Happy Friday before Easter, friends! Speaking of Easter, the Friendly Fill-Ins are here to help us get in the festive mood today.

Here are the fun and festive fill-ins from our hosts, Ellen of 15andmeowing and Annie of McGuffy's Reader:

1. For Easter (or Passover), I _________.
2. My favorite Easter (or Passover) treat is _________.
3. Lately, the song _________ is stuck in my head.
4. The A-Z Blogging Challenge _________.

And, as always, here's how I fared:

1. For Easter (or Passover), I will be making an Easter bunny dirt pie.
(I made one of these last year, and it was a lot of fun. So, I'm making it again this year. To be honest, I don't even eat this dessert, because I'm intolerant to most of the ingredients. But, my family seems to enjoy eating it just as much as I enjoy making it, so it all works out in the end. Below is a photo of the one I made last year, in case you were curious what an Easter dirt pie might look like.)

2. My favorite Easter (or Passover) treat is spending the day with my human and furry family.
(This fill-in might have been geared toward the tasty sort of treats, but I'm going this direction with it instead. Besides, as you might have read in my #1 above, I don't eat a whole lot of treats these days because my intestines think they're all evil. Instead, my treats involve furry cuddles and quality time with family, and I'm perfectly happy with that.)

3. Lately, the song "Frosty the Snowman" is stuck in my head.
(It's officially spring, which obviously means we got lots of snow dumped on us last weekend. Ever since then, my brain thinks its needs to play "Frosty the Snowman" on repeat 24/7.)

4. The A-Z Blogging Challenge is going to be a challenge indeed.
(But, this is the funnest kind of challenge! To read about my A to Z theme for this year, just click here. I have the basics of my artsy fartsy little literary doodles all planned out, but I have not yet had time to really get started on them. Talk about waiting until the last minute. That being said, I have a long Easter weekend off of work, so over the next couple of days I plan to sit down on the couch with some furbabies and work on some A to Z doodles.)

***
It's that time again, when Eddy decides to show off her skills at posing for the camera. Who am I kidding. Eddy decided to go for another blooper, with a strange pose and all sorts of terrible lighting.

Bloopers are Eddy's favorite kind of shot to snap!

Happy Friday, friends!

Our Tip of the Day:

We have one more precautionary safety tip for National Pet Poison Awareness Month. This simple tip is to be aware and cautious of where in your home you put anything that might contain potentially poisonous items. For example, if you keep medications, food, makeup, art supplies, or other similar items in your backpack, purse, briefcase, lunchbox, or other carrying container, be sure to keep this out of reach of your kitty or pup. When you come home after work or school, put your bag in a closed closet, or on a hook or shelf where your furbaby cannot reach. This will help keep them from sneaking into your bag and getting into any dangerous medications, snacks, or other similar items that you might have left in there.

In this same line of thought, always be cautious where you put your groceries when you come home from shopping. We might bring home any number of food items, cleaners, or other products that contain potentially poisonous ingredients. So, do not leave any such grocery bags or products unattended, but instead be sure to put all groceries and other potentially toxic items securely out of reach as quickly as possible. If need be, for safety's sake, you can block your kitty or pup out of the room that contains the groceries, at least while you're tucking them safely away.

All in all, this is just yet another tip reminding you to always take any and all details into consideration when it comes to your furbaby's health and safety. We may see our purse or a bag of groceries as safe, but for your furbaby it might not be. So, as always, think ahead and take any precautions, no matter how big or how small, to keep that kitty or pup of yours safe and sound.

Another Window Wednesday

Our Doodle of the Day:

***
Our Tip of the Day:

Today's National Pet Poison Awareness Month tip is an add-on to our tip from yesterday, when we reminded you to keep doors closed and other obstacles in place to keep your furbaby safe from substances and areas with poison. Taking that one step further, if needed, child-proofing products can be your your best friend even for those furry children in your life. For example, do you have a curious kitty or puppy who has found ways to open cabinets and drawers? This can put a furbaby at risk, such as if those cabinets and drawers contain human medications, cleaners, or other toxic items, or even sharp or other dangerous objects. To prevent prying paws from opening cabinets and drawers, you can get child-proof, or pet-proof, locks that make cabinets and drawers difficult or impossible to open without dexterity, or opposable thumbs. There are also child-proof locks to keep main doors securely closed. This can come in handy if you have a kitty or pup who knows how to manipulate certain door handles.

We've mentioned this on here before, but also don't forget the usefulness of baby gates. They also make gates that are more specifically pet-proof, such as tall ones over which dogs and cats cannot easily jump. These can be used to block access to certain areas of the house to ensure your kitty or pup's safety. For example, you can use baby or pet gates to block access to the kitchen, especially if potentially toxic foods are being prepared. These gates can also be used to block off garbage cans, laundry areas, or other areas of the home where potential poisoning might occur.

Just as with a human child, our kitties and pups can get themselves into trouble. Consider all areas of the home where danger might arise, and then do your research on what you can do to best prevent emergencies from dangers such as accidental poisoning. Do your best to always be one step ahead of your kitty or pup, as difficult as that may be.

Happy Easter!

We are wishing all of you happiness and blessings aplenty, today and every day!

From all of us to all of you, HAPPY EASTER!

Oh, and of course Astrid snapped that Easter shot of hers so that she could star in the Sunday Selfies blog hop, hosted by our friends over at The Cat on My Head.

Visit the Kitties Blue over at The Cat on My Head to see more festive and all sorts of fun selfies!

Our Tip of the Day:
Have lots of leftover Easter eggs? If your furbaby is not likely to chew on, swallow, or be left unattended with these plastic eggs, consider letting them have an Easter egg hunt of their own! You can place some especially pungent and delicious treats inside the eggs, hide the eggs or even just place them in the open on the floor, and let your furbaby sniff them out. When they find them, they get some Easter goodies all of their own! If you are at all concerned that your furbaby might swallow or in any way be harmed by the traditional Easter eggs, you can use some treat-dispensing toys, or even just hide some treats around the room or around the house for them to find in their very own eggless Easter hunt. Happy Easter!

L is for...

Where to start off this fun and fantastic Friday? Well, let's begin with the A to Z Challenge! Today we honor the letter L. This lovely letter actually gave us a number of options for animals to add to our A to Z Menagerie. There are llamas and lobsters, and of course lions, and leopards, and lynxes. But, none of those are what we decided to add to our alphabetical animal collection. Want to see what we did choose to doodle?

A lemur! We're kind of loving how a lemur's tail is much like that of certain tabbies around here. We just love those ringed tails.

So, there's a lemur for you. Now, though, we move on to one of our favorite parts of the week. And that's the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by none other than 15andmeowing and McGuffy's Reader.

Our hosts gave us some fun and festive fill-ins this week!

1. An Easter (or Passover) tradition I have is _________.
2. My favorite flavor of ice cream is _________.
3. One of my favorite Easter/Passover memories is _________.
4. My favorite Spring flower is ________.

Here's how I fared with those:

1. An Easter tradition I have is going to Easter morning Mass at church.
(I've always loved Easter morning Mass. I love when it's a beautiful Spring morning, the sun is shining and birds are chirping, and everyone fills up the church to celebrate. I go to church every week, but I get to Mass extra early on Easter, since the church always ends up filled wall to wall that morning. It's quite a sight to see.)

2. My favorite flavor of ice cream is vanilla.
(Boring, huh? Honestly, though, I've always thought that vanilla ice cream is perfect because, not only does it have a delectably rich and smooth taste itself, but it also allows for so many possibilities. After all, you can spruce up vanilla ice cream with just about anything. You know, like chocolate, peanut butter, and caramel, and don't forget about warm brownies and cake, and even cookies, and apple pie. Oh, and who doesn't love vanilla ice cream with some candy on top? By the way, did you know that gummy bears are delicious with vanilla ice cream?)

3. One of my favorite Easter memories is when my birthday fell on Good Friday. Twice.
(Good Friday, the Friday immediately before Easter, is meant to be a day of sacrifice. As a Catholic, I observe fasting and abstinence on Good Friday. This means no meat, no snacks, and really just not much indulging for the sake of sacrifice. So, when my birthday fell on Good Friday, that meant no pepperoni pizza for dinner like every other year, and no evening feasting on cake and ice cream. Yet, I consider that a good memory? To be honest, I really did enjoy both times – in 2007 and 2012 – that my birthday fell on Good Friday. There's something humbling about forgoing the usual birthday cake and other treats on the big day itself. I felt like such a big girl, when I realized that it wasn't the cake or the ice cream, not even the pizza, that made the day special. It's nice when life throws you lessons like that.)

4. My favorite Spring flower is the daffodil.
(Daffodils are not only lovely, but they are also one of the first plants that bloom come Spring. It's as if daffodils are the heralds of Spring, and that's probably why I always feel so excited when I see my first one bloom each year.)

Okay, now it's Eddy's turn! She's been an active girl this week. Just like every week. And every day, and every minute of every day. She did sort of pause during one of her daily rolls on the living room rug recently, though, and so I took advantage of that and snapped a shot of her.

It's not like she looked at the camera or anything, but beggars can't be choosers. Do you like how she tries to camouflage herself on this busy rug? She's almost gotten stepped on this way a few times, the poor girl.

Don't worry, though, that moment of stillness there didn't last long.

And a-rolling she goes.

Woohoo! That's more like it. Blurry Eddy for the win!

We're wishing everybuddy a beautiful day!

Oh, and for a little P.S.: Tomorrow is a certain orange tabby's birthday, so feel free to stop in tomorrow and help us celebrate!

Our Tip of the Day:
Are you ready for us to sound like a broken record? Good, because here it goes. Holidays sure can be fun and festive, but they can also pose many dangers for our furbabies. This Easter, please don't forget about your pups' and kitties' safety and comfort. If you're having company or hosting an Easter celebration, be sure to keep your furbaby away from any chances of escaping through the front door, as well as safe from any increased foot traffic in the house. Also of course be cognizant of other Easter dangers, such as chocolate and other candy, and flowers such as lilies, daffodils and tulips. Even consider the danger of Easter basket fillers, such as fake Easter grass or confetti. Easter can indeed be a fun and lovely holiday, but don't forget the risks as well!
