Caturday Art in the Kitchen. Again.

For last week's Caturday Art Blog Hop, we shared a doodle set in an autumnal, witchy sort of kitchen. Today, we're sharing a doodle set in a slightly more traditional kitchen. That being said, it's actually a kitchen we've shared other renditions of before. This time around, though, we pretty much vomited autumn all over this kitchen, added some pumpkin pie, a splash or two of pumpkin juice, and of course threw in a couple kitties and a pup. Make sense? Yes? Good. Here you go.

If that doodle looks a tad bit crooked, don't worry, you're not tipsy. The doodle is crooked. I don't believe in rulers, and that's pretty much all I can say on that.

In case you're wondering, the above doodle stars Tonks, Winky, and pup Astrid for a reason. Around here, they're the most likely furbabies to try to join you on the kitchen counter. So, I figured I'd toss their naughty behavior into a doodle.

We're of course contributing this yet another kitchen doodle to Athena's Caturday Art Blog Hop.

Happy Caturday to all!

Did you know?
Did you know that acorns can be toxic to animals? Acorns contain gallic acid and tannic acid, which can cause potential stomach upset, diarrhea, or even potentially kidney disease if ingested. There is also the risk of gastrointestinal obstruction if an animal ingests acorns. Acorns can be a risk to cats and dogs, but also horses, cattle, and other animals. For this reason, always be aware of acorns when outdoors with your animals, and of course also refrain from putting acorn-adorned decor within your furbaby's reach. Acorns are more commonly an issue in the autumn and winter, but of course be on the lookout for them and other hazards all year round.

Friendly Fill-Ins

We do have some fill-ins to fill in today. That being said, this week the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge will only be found on my blog, as my co-host Ellen of 15andmeowing is taking a blogging break to spend time with her sweet cat Noel, whose health is sadly declining. Please send your purrs and prayers to Noel and Ellen.

In case you missed the fill-in statements yesterday, I'll share them again here.

1. _________ never fails to improve my bad mood.

2. I feel out of place _________.

3. I would like to find a treasure chest filled with _________.

4. If you ask me, _________ keeps the doctor away.

My answers are below in bold.

1. A purring cat never fails to improve my bad mood.
(I'm sure this is the case for most of you as well.)

2. I feel out of place when I'm away from home.
(I've mentioned before that I'm a diehard homebody. One of my future goals is to work from home, because leaving the comfort of my home and my furbabies for work every day is not really my cup of tea. I don't mind the occasional outing for shopping and to go on walks and the like, but aside from that I just really like being home. I have enough hobbies, like art and writing, to keep me busy and happy at home. I'm even such a homebody that I don't like vacations, though I do enjoy staycations. Just like last year, my aunt is currently planning a family vacation to Florida for an entire week in November. My aunt even pays for everyone's room and board in a giant house on the beach, so the vacation ends up being low cost for anyone who wants to go. That being said, though I really appreciate my aunt being so kind, I never go. I can't imagine a week away from home, though that might sound strange to some.)

3. I would like to find a treasure chest filled with resources for the homeless.
(I don't even fully know what a treasure chest could be filled with to truly help the homeless of both the furry and human sort, but I'd sure like to find this solution nonetheless. Perhaps this treasure chest would be filled with oodles of money? Tickets to forever homes? Food supplies? I'd take anything that would help homeless kitties, pups, and humans find safe and sound homes.)

4. If you ask me, the unconditional love of a cat or dog keeps the doctor away.
(After all, science says kitties and pups can help us feel happier and live longer!)

Ready for Eddy? Believe it or not, on rare occasion you can catch a snoozing Eddy with the camera.

This is very rare, though. So rare that these photos are from many months ago, and I haven't achieved any photos of a snoozing Eddy since then.

These photos really aren't all that clear and focused. I can't even get a non-blurry shot of this girl when she's sleeping. That's probably my fault, because I'm certainly no professional photographer.

Due to her facial nerve paralysis, Eddy literally always sleeps with one eye open. Her right eye never fully closes. Luckily, it never dries out, in large part because the third eyelid does function properly, as you can see in the second photo above.

Happy Friday, friends!

Doodle of the Day: Flashback Friday

Today's flashback doodle is from last year's Talk Like a Pirate Day. This momentous day falls on September 19, which this time around is next Thursday. That's why I figured I had a good enough excuse to share this pirate doodle as today's flashback. Of course, I obviously had to drown the doodle in autumn.

For at least the past two years, my one-eyed angel Rosie has starred in my Talk Like a Pirate Day doodles. I remember last year feeling inspired to also throw in a confused pup Astrid, since the day is often called Meow Like a Pirate Day as well as Bark Like a Pirate Day. I didn't want any pups feeling left out.

In case you were wondering, Rosie was most definitely the boss of Astrid when the two lived together. Astrid always knew to give Rosie her space, otherwise the whappy paws would come out. I wonder what this pup would do if she found herself on a boat with Rosie and an entire crew of kitties. Astrid loves her some kitties, but boy that would be an interesting crew of pirates. Then again, Rosie always despised other cats, so she'd likely be the most displeased with a whole crew of them.

Did you know?
Did you know studies have found that the mere act of looking at your cat or dog can stimulate your brain to release oxytocin, a neurochemical that makes you feel joy? Just the sight of a kitty or pup is enough to improve your mood! Interacting with your cat or dog can also reduce cortisol, which is a stress hormone. As we've mentioned in previous factoids, studies have also found that life with cats and dogs can help reduce your blood pressure and your risk for cardiovascular disease, just to name a couple more examples. The power of a companion animal's unconditional love, of course in addition to their sensory abilities, is also why dogs and cats have been found to offer many emotional, mental, social, and physical benefits to individuals with PTSD, autism, and a variety of ailments. What would we do without cats and dogs in our lives?

Thoroughly Poetic Thankful Thimble Thursday

Happy Thursday! Shall we kick off the day with Angel Sammy's Thoroughly Poetic Thursday challenge?

As always, our host shared a photo prompt to guide as a we rhyme. The prompt for this week is this interesting one here:

As a kid, I watched the 1994 The Little Rascals movie more times than I can count. The movie involves the rascally children partaking in a go-kart race. The little vehicle in the image above very vaguely reminded me of their go-kart, so I sort of started with that thought and went from there.

Little and the Rascals

Little Billy was the son of Big Billy,
But that was a mouthful and sounded quite silly.
That's why their names simply became Little and Big,
To make things much easier and far more quick.

Little was only that by name.
Though just a boy, daring was his claim to fame.
There was not a single challenge Little did not accept.
He never wanted to seem a failure or inept.

Little's next big challenge was inching closer day by day.
It involved an event with pumpkins, apple cider, and hay,
This event being the local fall festival on an approaching October day.
The fall festival would of course include its annual race,
With go-karts trying to reach the fastest pace,
And a giant trophy for the one who sped to first place.

Little would of course be partaking in this autumn derby.
He planned to win that trophy, and in a hurry.
Luckily, Little was not a team of his own.
He had two good friends waiting for him at home.

In case you weren't aware, Little's best friends were furry and feline.
They were also loyal and smart and would help Little in no time.
Little's friends had names just as confusing as the very boy and his dad,
Because the name game really can get that bad.

Both of Little's feline friends had the name of Rascal,
And yes, that really was sometimes quite a hassle.
It didn't help that the cats were also identical.
They were oft called Rascal One and Rascal Two.
The Rascals was the collective name for the friends who mewed.

The fall festival was rapidly closing in.
Little was certain losing the go-kart race would be a sin.
He worked on his race car day and night,
Of course with the Rascals right there by his side.
Soon enough, Little believed his go-kart was perfect,
It was the Rascals who gave it that one final check.

Finally, the day of the fall festival arrived.
To it, Little gave his go-kart a drive.
The Rascals had seats of their own in the car,
And they seemed content to ride along no matter how far.

Little was ready at the start line long before the race began.
He wasn't about to be a tardy racing man.
The other racers now took their places as well,
And Little geared himself up to start the race out out swell.

Truth be told, Little was perhaps a tad bit cutthroat,
Though you might cringe to hear that unfortunate note.
Little even thought he'd trained the Rascals to do what needed done,
To do what was needed to ensure that they won.

When the race began, Little put the pedal to the metal,
All while checking to see anything that might knock him down a level.
When he saw a thing or two that caused him concern,
To his furry race friends he immediately did turn.

Little never thought the Rascals would disobey, not ever.
He didn't think twice about asking them to hop out and see to the competitors.
He told Rascal One that young Rudy's car needed its brake line severed.
And loosening speeding Ollie's wheels was Rascal Two's instructed endeavor.

Did the Rascals obey Little, though?
They most certainly did not, no.
Rather, they purred and purred and yet again purred,
While quite clearly enjoying the wind in their fur

In the end, the race was thrilling and a close one at that.
Little came in second, which to him was dead last.
His shoulders fell and he frowned as he sighed,
Though he dared not lot any tears fall from his eyes.

Little wondered if the Rascals were upset by the loss,
Though perhaps they would have won if they had let him be boss.
When he turned and caught sight of his two furry friends,
There was a shift in his mood and mind right there and then.

They had not won the race as Little had wished,
But the Rascals tails still happily swished.
They pranced this way and that with their heads held high,
And even offered glad tidings to the driver of the winning ride.

Little watched as the Rascals did all those happy things.
To them, not coming in first was not even remotely a sting.
Little wondered if the Rascals knew more than him about winning.
Little thought that perhaps a trophy meant nothing.
Perhaps the joy of it all was what really meant something.

Now, what does Thimble have to share today for Brian's Thankful Thursday Blog Hop?

Thimble is so very grateful for all the sunshine we've been having lately. It may be 90°F outside, but Thimble is enjoying that sun from her favorite air conditioned window seat.

Obviously, Thimble is also thankful for that adorable nose on that adorable face of hers.

We're of course also so very thankful for this wonderful blogging community!

Did you know that observations in the wild have concluded that a cheetah can go from 0 mph to 60 mph in just 3 seconds? Cheetahs are said to be capable of reaching speeds up to 75 mph, albeit in short bursts. We've mentioned in a previous post that a house cat can reach speeds up to approximately 30 mph. That is more similar to the speed of a tiger, which is said to be able to reach maximum speeds of 30 or 40 mph. Lions, as another example, can reach speeds up to roughly 50 mph. Do you think you could beat a cat in a race?

May we never forget.

In the United States, today is Patriot Day. On this day, we honor all those who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001. May we never forget.

Did you know that an estimated 300 trained search-and-rescue dogs were present at Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks? Did you know that the last person found alive at Ground Zero, roughly 27 hours after the towers collapsed, was found by a search-and-rescue dog? There were also therapy dogs present, offering comfort to anyone who might need it at Ground Zero. Sadly, both human and companion animal lives were lost as a result of the September 11 attacks, but they shall all be remembered.

A Tabby's Trouble on Tuesday

On Sunday, Thimble shared some selfies of her and some of the new toys she received from the Tooth Fairy thanks to Ellen of 15andmeowing. Speaking of those toys, today Thimble wanted to show you all what she has to put up with on the daily.

Thimble indeed got some super fun catnip toys from the Tooth Fairy because she recently underwent a dental.

But poor Thimble, she's not an only child. When she was trying to enjoy her new toys, invaders swooped in.

Don't worry, though. This here mom of Thimble's made sure the girl with missing teeth got her fair share of turns with the new toys. There were more toys than cats vying for them, so it's not like the the goodies were lacking. Thimble was more than able to get purrfectly nipped up on these wonderful toys, and she was a happy girl.

Thimble hopes all of you have a day filled with catnip and fun toys, preferably ones you don't have to share!

Doodle of the Day: Flashback Tuesday

Today's flashback doodle is, of course, an autumn one. I remember scribbling this up last September, during a string of days when it just wouldn't stop raining. I recall wanting to try my hand at making the weather look a little more inviting. Since we had some rainy days just this past weekend, this flashback doodle seemed fitting enough.

Did you know that catnip is a perennial in the mint family? Another common name for it is even catmint. And did you know that catnip is native to Europe, Africa, and Asia, and that it was imported to the United States? It now grows widespread throughout North America. Catnip is sometimes even considered a weed, and it can often easily take over an area in which it grows.

Mancat Monday

Thimble and Eddy both recently showed off their whiskers. Obviously, mancat Evan had to do the same. He hopes you enjoy.

Happy Monday, friends!

Did you know that cats have free-floating clavicle bones? In other words, a cat's collarbone is not connected to any other bone in their body. This is why many cats can compress themselves to fit into small spaces no larger than roughly the size of their head.

Selfies for the Tooth Fairy

Thimble is incredibly excited to share her selfies today. As some of you might remember, Thimble recently underwent a dental and lost a tooth. The dental is certainly not what Thimble is excited about, though. What she's excited about is that, thanks to amazing and wonderful Ellen of 15andmeowing, the Tooth Fairy sent Thimble some goodies!

That there is Thimble guarding just two of her toys from the Tooth Fairy. She got a couple more toys, but her kitty siblings dove in and stole them before she could snap a selfie with them. That's why Thimble is guarding those two so closely.

In case you were wondering, Thimble was already good and nipped out on those toys when these selfies were snapped. These are more like aftermath selfies, you could say. Thimble apologizes, therefore, if she looks like she wasn't seeing quite straight in these selfies. Because she wasn't.

Of course, Thimble is sharing these selfies for the Tooth Fairy as part the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop, hosted by the Kitties Blue over at The Cat on My Head.

Thimble and this mom of hers here are sending our purrs and thanks to Ellen! Thank you, Tooth Fairy!

Doodle of the Day

Here's another hectic autumn doodle.

Did you know?
Did you know that cats have 26 baby teeth and 30 permanent adult teeth? Dogs have 28 baby teeth and 42 permanent adult teeth. As for us humans, we have 20 baby teeth and 32 permanent adult teeth. Like us humans, cats and dogs are born without teeth, they grow in baby teeth at a young age, and then they lose those baby teeth so as to make room for their permanent adult teeth. The timeline of this is of course accelerated in cats and dogs when compared to humans, though. The baby teeth of cats and dogs grow in when they're a couple weeks old, and they lose baby teeth when they are a couple to a few months old.
