Caturday Art: Beach Boy

Welcome to the weekend, everybuddy!

We love Caturday around here. It means the weekend is young, with plenty of rest, relaxation, and extra snuggles in store. And then, of course, there's the fun Caturday Art blog hop, hosted by none other than Athena!

This week, my boy Evan gets to be the artsy star. I mentioned last week how a number of things inspire me when it comes to my art. Obviously, my furbabies are a huge inspiration. I also mentioned muses in the forms of books and movies and music, and the weird conversations I have with my sister. This week, the Evan art stems from that last one.

You see, sequestering my sister and I in a room together can lead to some very interesting discussions. Oftentimes, we don't even remember how we ended up on a particular topic. Recently, we were left unattended in a room, and our discussion led to Evan (much to my pleasure) and his many unique poses. Remember, Evan is hind limb paralyzed. He pulls himself around with his front legs, leaving his back legs to follow along and to take on very unique positions. Some of Evan's favorite poses include sitting with his back legs jutting off to his right side, and letting his legs dangle in front of him when he sits up on an elevated surface. In our recent discussion, my sister and I ended up brainstorming what all types of characters Evan could emulate given his favorite poses. My sister ultimately said that she could picture him reclining in a chair on the beach, enjoying the sun and all that jazz.

Long story short, I thought, hey, why not? Hence this:

So there's my happy little guy, in all of his beach boy glory.

Happy Caturday, furiends!

Our Tip of the Day:
This seems like a good time to reiterate a tip from earlier this summer. We mentioned before how our furbabies can be victims of sunburn and skin cancer, just like us humans. This is why, especially if your furbaby enjoys spending time in the sun, it is important that you always monitor their skin and keep an eye out for any abnormalities. More exposed regions of their skin, such as their ears and nose, are most vulnerable. Of course, those with highly exposed skin, such as Sphynx kitties or those that are shaved, should be very closely monitored for skin ailments such as sunburn. It helps to offer areas of shade or some form of protective shelter, especially for outdoor cat and dogs, or those accustomed to long naps in windows. And, just as with humans, sunscreen can benefit your furbabies. It may not be wise to use sunscreen formulated for humans, especially without consulting a veterinarian, but there are indeed sunscreens on the market formulated specifically for our pups and kitties.

I love your Evan art, so cute. I agree with what Ann wrote, you should illustrate children's books. Great tip, I didn't know there was sunscreen for pets, mine don't need it, but it is good to know there is such a thing.

Evan does look cool and comfortable in the shade of his umbrella and Palm tree ...just as you suggested, in the shade. Really cute and great tip especially for this time of year.
