Friendly Fill-Ins

Hello and happy Friday, friends! We're here and ready for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge. Please join us if this sounds like fun to you! My co-host Ellen of 15andmeowing came up with the first two fill-in statements, and I came up with the second two.

1. _________ is more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

2. One should take time to _________ every day.

3. I hesitate to _________ because _________.

4. Is it time for _________ yet?

My answers are below in bold.

1. Animal Crossing is more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
(Animal Crossing is a silly and mindless little video game. I'm not even sure how to describe it, but you create a character who sets up a home in a little village inhabited mostly by anthropomorphic animals. You can do things like decorate your little home, go fishing, catch bugs, go shopping, and all that jazz. There are even extra fun and weird little things to do during the major holiday seasons. It's a weird game and insanely silly, but I honestly find its cuteness and mindlessness rather fun and relaxing.)

2. One should take time to relax every day.
(I'm not always the best at remembering to take moments to relax, but when I do, I do notice just how much it helps me. Take even just 5 minutes for a quiet breather, or take the time to read, to watch TV or a movie, to play a game, or to do whatever it is that relaxes you. Even when life gets busy, or more like especially when life gets busy, we sometimes just really need a moment or two to relax and recharge.)

3. I hesitate to sit on my couch because I seem to be allergic to the new cleaner I used on it.
(Weird answer, I know, but this is very fresh and current in my mind and so I went with it. I regularly do a full clean of my living room couch. After all, there are seven animals in my house, and one of them has urinary incontinence. I used a new cleaner on said couch this past weekend. It's a brand I've used before, it seemed like it would be a harmless one, and I liked its fresh scent. But, after sitting and even napping on the couch, I ended up with full body itching that ultimately turned into full body hives. I'm actually heading to see a doctor this morning because the hives will not go away and they are very itchy. I'm just glad none of the kitties reacted to the cleaner, as especially Thimble is prone to having allergic reactions to rather random things.)

4. Is it time for the weekend yet?
(Oh, it is? Great. Monday is also Labor Day here in the US, so it's a three day weekend, which is nothing short of a godsend.)

Tip of the Day

As part of our autumn series of pet safety tips, we recently mentioned keeping school supplies out of your furbaby's reach. In addition to this, there are further potential dangers that might pose a risk especially as the weather cools. One such hazard is, as you all certainly know, antifreeze. Without going into the chemistry of it, coolants such as antifreeze contain components that are highly toxic to cats and dogs. At the same time, it also can smell or taste sweet and enticing to our furbabies, making it all the more dangerous. For such reasons, try to avoid all emergencies by simply keeping antifreeze, and other similar products, hidden away where your cats and dogs cannot reach.

We'll also mention one more toxic group of products that is often more commonly used once the weather cools. We're referring to rodenticides. When the temperatures outside start to lower, critters like mice might very well try to find ways to enter our homes in order to find warmth. This might result in some people using rodenticides. However, these products can be highly toxic to our furbabies. Not only is it dangerous if a cat or dog finds and ingests the chemical itself, but they can also become sick if they ingest a rodent that has eaten the rodenticide. All of that being said, it is likely best to avoid using rodenticides altogether, to ensure that your furbaby is not affected by them at all. Of course, keep in mind that snapping mice traps can also pose a risk, especially if they contain  enticing cheese or peanut butter and are somewhere that your furbaby can potentially access. One safer option is to look into using humane mouse traps, such as catch-and-release types. Of course, it is still wise to place these somewhere hidden away to avoid complications with your furbaby.

As lovely as autumn is, it can still pose risks to our kitties and pups. As the seasons change, think of any and all new products that you might be using. Then, consider how such products might affect your furbaby and their health, and then only use and store them in manners that keep your furbaby safe.

Yes, we should take time to relax each day. It's good for the mind and body. I'm excited it's a holiday weekend, too. I'm even more excited that cooler weather will be upon us before too long. I love autumn weather!!

Hope you get over those hives quickly. That’s how i found out i was allergic to an antibiotic, and it’s way no fun to have to deal with it.

Love the photo of Eddy, and now i wish i had a cookie!

That is strange about the hives. We are wary on any cleaners and use water with a bit of soap on about everything.
Hi Eddy!
