Thoroughly Poetic Thankful Thimble Thursday

Hello and happy Thursday, friends! We're going to get right to business, starting with Angel Sammy's Thoroughly Poetic Thursday challenge.

As always, our host shared a photo prompt to help guide our poetic endeavors. This week's prompt was this cute image here:

Admittedly, my poem only very marginally relates to that photo. That's because I already had a couple of doodles completed that I wanted to share this week, and since I like to have illustrations to match my poems, I decided to find a way to make a poem to sort of fit that prompt as well as one of my completed doodles. And that's why the following weird and wacky poem is what I have for you today.

Impulse Buy

Mr. Whiskers had a problem.
He once brought home from the grocery store a candelabrum.
Well, let's rewind and further explain,
So that you can fully know why Mrs. Whiskers was about to go insane.

You know that thing called an impulse buy?
When it came to that, Mr. Whiskers was your guy.
It started with things like chocolate bars and gum.
Mr. Whiskers would see those in the checkout line and home with him they'd come.

But it didn't stop at those chocolate bars and gum, no no no.
So much farther Mr. Whisker's impulse buys would soon go go go.
He once brought home a snow shovel and snow boots,
And that was in the middle of sunny, sweltering June.

Oh, and let's not forget the time Mr. Whiskers showed up with a pet rock,
Or that time he showed up with these confusing thing called toe socks.
And then there was the chess set missing all of its pawns.
Mrs. Whiskers rolled her eyes as the list went on and on.

Until one day, Mr. Whiskers came home from the store with a strange little something.
"It's an enchanted bottle!" he told Mrs. Whiskers, smiling as if he could sing.
Mrs. Whiskers at first could only shake her head and frown,
Until she finally said, "Enchanted? By what? A clown?"

The bottle, enchanted or not, sat atop the table.
Mrs. Whiskers looked at Mr. Whiskers as if he were purely unstable.
It was a simple bottle made of simple old glass,
And, unlike Mr. Whiskers, Mrs. Whiskers didn't see anything special about that.

Mrs. Whiskers said, "You really need to stop buying all this junk, for goodness sake."
To that, Mr. Whiskers said, "Isn't it about time for us to eat cake?
We can have our milk out of this wonderfully enchanted bottle.
The lady who sold it to me said it's the only one of its make and model."

With no words to say, Mrs. Whiskers simply took a seat.
Mr. Whiskers brought to the table his beloved bottle and the cake, sugary sweet.
"This bottle is supposed to, well, work on its own," he said.
"After all, that's what it means to be enchanted!" he added with a nod of his head.

Setting glasses in from of himself and Mrs. Whiskers,
Mr. Whiskers sat and smiled at the bottle as if to him it did whisper.
Mrs. Whiskers gave yet another sigh,
Just before the bottle lifted into the air right before their eyes.

"See?" Mr. Whiskers said with a clap.
"It's enchanted! Didn't I tell you exactly that?"
Mrs. Whiskers looked like she might actually smile.
After all, a bottle was filling their glasses with milk in its very own style.

That, though, is when the tide changed.
It started with the milk turning colors quite strange.
And then the bottle, well, it became white deranged.
It began to pour its contents on anything and everything in range.

By the time the bottle was empty,
The entire kitchen was covered in colorful milk aplenty.
Mr. and Mrs. Whiskers were certainly not spared,
As they now sat there with strange-colored milk in their hair.

"Now will you stop buying all this junk?" Mrs. Whiskers finally said.
She stood from the table as she shook her milk-stained head.
"I guess there's no use crying over spilled milk," she muttered.
Then, before leaving, she threw to Mr. Whiskers soap and rags from the cupboard.

And now it's time for Brian's Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.

Thimble is of course here to share her gratitude. Today, she's thankful that she's often nearby to help this mom of hers draw.

When Thimble thinks this here human needs to alter what she's drawing, Thimble is there to lend a helping hand mouth.

I didn't even manage to get the drawing I was working on in those photos, but that is indeed Thimble oh so helpfully deciding what I do with my art pen. Thanks, Thimble.

Tip of the Day

Now that we've reached June, we're doing a series of tips all about summer safety for our furbabies. Yesterday we discussed how to recognize the signs of overheating in cats and dogs. Today we're here to remind you that, to avoid potentially fatal heat stroke in your furbaby, never leave them alone in a car. In the heat of summer, the inside of a car can reach temperatures well above 100°F within a matter of minutes. Even with the windows open, the inside of a car can still become not only stifling, but also incredibly dangerous, potentially deadly.

Also keep in mind that the car is not the only location that can pose the risk of overheating. Garages, sheds, and of course even the great outdoors can be dangerous places on hot summer days. In short, as you all certainly know, never leave your furbaby in a car or anywhere that can easily overheat on summer days. Just like us, kitties and pups can indeed suffer from heat stroke if left in overheated conditions, and this can be fatal.

Terrific story/poem, and it's good that Mr. Whiskers got to clean up his own mess.
Thimble, something tells me, and this is purely conjecture, that your 'help' is simply to make your mom smile.

Mr. Whiskers will learn, i guess, the hard way which is the best way sometimes. Fun poem, and Thimble is obviously an art critic.

That's a fun story poem!

It's winter here in SA and I am constantly worrying if my pets are warm enough. The dogs got new blankies yesterday and Elza just snuggles in.

Have a wonderful weekend!!
