Thimble Squared Thursday

Thimble met another little thimble in her Thimble Thursday post last week. We had some trouble deciding a title for that double Thimble post. Ever so creative Mudpie and her mom Melissa gave us the idea of Thimble Squared Thursday. Well, we liked that so much we wanted to do a redo just so that we could use it.

So, there it is again. That thimble, always lurking over poor Thimble. See? It won't even leave her alone while she tries to enjoy some window whiffies.

Now, let's be honest. Thimble is not the biggest fan of competition.

So, she took matters into her own hands paws. What else to do than bat that photobombing thimble away? That's how you wipe out the competition. You just brush it under the rug. Or the couch. The couch works great, too.

Ah, that's more like it. Peace, and quiet, and sun puddle snoozes, and no more competition from all those thimble wannabes. In fact, those are the very things for which Thimble is so very grateful to enter into Brian's Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.

And, as always, we're also thankful for our family and furiends, like you!

Wishing everybuddy a beautiful day!

Our Tip of the Day:
We had our first mosquito home intrusion of the year last night. Please do realize that mosquitoes, and other potentially dangerous insects, can indeed find ways into your home, such as through open doors or even small cracks. Mosquitoes carry heartworm, as I'm sure most of you know. So, please do take this into account when considering preventive care for your furbabies. Preventives that cover heartworm are often only able to be obtained at a veterinary office, or by prescription, so please consult your veterinarian about protecting your furbaby against all potential threats such as this. Keep in mind also that, while dogs can be go through an often difficult yet viable treatment for heartworm, there is no heartworm cure for cats. Long story short, please do take heartworm into consideration when it comes to preventive care for your kitty or pup. Their life could depend on it!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

Just another obligatory nose shot.

Our Tip of the Day:
We have a pup tip for you today. If you have yourself a high energy dog who has difficulty resting and relaxing, even after walks and play time, then perhaps considering having them wear a weight-bearing vest on walks. This type of vest allows them to carry a bit of extra weight, such as in the form of water bottles, which helps them to expend more of their high energy. Needless to say, do not allow them to carry so much that they become overtired or pained, and don’t let them get overheated on the walk. But, if done safely and with care, this extra bit of weight can help a high energy dog drain some of that excess energy. Especially in the case of dogs in a working breed, this can also give them a sense of purpose and be enjoyable. Of course, in the case of an extremely high energy dog, also discuss this and other methods with a veterinarian or professional behaviorist.

Toby Tuesday

Toby, our housemate who just so happens to also be my girl Thimble's brother, informed me that it's been far too long since he's starred in a post all to himself. So, this one's for you, Toby.

Feel free to tell Toby how handsome he is, even though he already knows that he is.

Happy Tuesday, everybuddy!

Our Tip of the Day:
Do you have some studying or work to do, yet your furbaby wants to play? At times like this, wand or string toys can be your best friends. There are already a number of cat toys of this nature available on the market, including ones that you can hold in one hand while working with the other, as well as those that can be stood on the floor or even attached to a windows with a suction cup. You can place toys such as this near your work area, so that you can direct your cat's attention to them when they seek you out, but also so that they can still feel close to you. Toys such as these may not be as common for dogs, but you can always get creative in order to keep that pup of yours busy while you work. This could include something as simple as attaching their favorite ball or chew toy to a string, and using this to play makeshift games of fetch or tug-of-war that satisfy your pup while also leaving you one or both hands free to continue your work at hand. It is indeed possible to get some work down while also keeping your furbaby happy and occupied!

Mancat Monday Mayhem

Thimble got to take charge of her very own post last week. Actually, she got to do that twice. That's why I, Evan, demanded to take the wheel on this Mancat Monday post. So, here I am!

I figured I'd use this post to show you something.

See me looking out the window there? That's me taking in the sights of our back yard.

There is a nice and cozy couch for me to lounge on while I look out the back window. But, as many of our furiends already know, I much prefer looking out the front door. Right now, though, the view from the front door isn't all that great.

In fact, I had that mom of mine snap a shot of our front door view right now. Want to see it?

See? It's mayhem out there. Mayhem! They dug up our road. They even took away our driveway! And let me tell you, they weren't quiet about it. They didn't even try to hide their driveway thievery. They just waltzed right in on those crazy big thingamajigs you see there, and gutted everything. Rude, if you ask me. My mom says those ginormous, loud machines are wearing name tags that indicate they are one with cats like me. I'm not buying it.

Anyway, luckily, my mom says they should be done making a mess this week. That means my good ol' view out the front door will be back!

I hope all of our furiends are getting lots of great views out of their windows these days! Happy Mancat Monday!

Love,
Evan

P.S. Apparently the mom here has decided that she wants to doodle some healthy food art. For the record, I don't like bananas. So I told her she better make that obvious in her weird doodle.

Our Tip of the Day:
If you are informed of construction or other similar work being done near your home, always be sure to take into account how this might affect your furbaby. For example, prepare to take measures to keep down the noise from any machinery, even as simply as by closing windows and curtains to drown out sounds and sights, and even playing music to mask the noise. If necessary, also make sure that you have a safe means of taking your furbaby in and out of the house. For example, if your pup needs to go outside to relieve his or herself, try to minimize stress by using a route in and out of the house that is the farthest away from the construction as possible. If relevant or possible, also consider scheduling events such as vet visits around the construction, so as to minimize your furbaby's exposure to it. Also take into consideration any outdoor kitties or pups in your care, and try to do your best to ensure their safety during construction or other neighborhood work. Of course, also ensure that your indoor furbabies are not able to escape outside. Some furbabies might dart out the door in panic if frightened by the sights or sounds outside, so you might consider blocking access to doors, or providing safe areas of the house where your furbabies can stay during this time.

Happy Mother's Day!

I may be a lot of things, but photogenic really is not one of them. That may have played a part in my decision to forgo joining my furbabies in a selfie despite the fact that it is indeed Mother's Day here in the US. Consider yourselves lucky.

Don't worry, though, we do have a selfie to share for this Mother's Day edition of the Sunday Selfies blog hop, hosted our pals over at The Cat on My Head.

Our selfie comes from none other than my boy Evan, who does happen to be perfectly photogenic. This mancat of mine is the momma's boy of all momma's boys. He also moonlights as a poetical sort, it would seem, which is perhaps why he snapped the below bright and sunny selfie and told me that he wishes it to represent the sunshine that all the mothers out there shed on the world.

All of us here wholeheartedly agree with Evan, in that mothers light up the world. So, keep on shining, ladies! From Evan and all of us here, we wish all of the mothers out there a most beautiful and perfect day.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Our Tip of the Day:
Motherhood is a wonderful thing, there is no doubt about that. But, please also don't forget the reality of overpopulation in the world of kitties and pups. Did you know that it is possible for just one female cat to produce thereabouts of 100 or so kittens in her primary reproductive years? And its been calculated that one pair of cats and their kittens can together produce well over 400,000 kittens in a matter of 7 years? So, please spay and neuter your cats and dogs. And, if and when possible, join in on efforts to spread this important message.

Caturday with Dog Mom

This Sunday, in our homestead of the US, we celebrate Mother's Day. I'm sure most of you already know this, but if you didn't, there you go. I myself may not have any children of the human sort, but I do have myself some furry, four-legged ones!

In honor of Mother's Day, our doodles for this weekend will of course be mom-centric. Despite the fact that we're entering it into lovely Athena's Caturday Art blog hop, today's doodle is actually one for the dogs (and dog moms, of course).

Be sure to check out Athena's Caturday Art blog hop to see what some of our furiends have created!

Happy Caturday!

Our Tip of the Day:
This Mother's Day weekend, don't forget to recognize the women in your life who are moms to humans, but also those who are moms to children with fur. Babies come in all shapes and sizes, with two legs or four legs, bald or with fur. So, don't forget to wish all the mothers you know a happy Mother's Day this weekend!

Friday Fun

Raise your paw if you're ready for the weekend! All paws (and hands) are raised here. To kick off the weekend, how about some Friendly Fill-Ins, hosted by the fantastic 15andmeowing and McGuffy's Reader?

As always, our hosts gave us some some fill-ins to get our creative juices flowing.

1. My favorite cereal is _________.
2. My prom _________.
3. The _________ thing about _________ is _________.
4. I cannot help _________, but _________.

So, I stirred up those stagnant juices in my brain, and here were the results:

1. My favorite cereal is corn Chex.
(I don't eat a whole lot of cereal these days, which may or not be in large part because I can't eat anything with wheat or lactose and the like. But, when I do eat cereal, I go straight for the corn Chex sort. I love corn, and I love corn cereal, and if I were to keep this stuff on hand at my house I'd probably go through a box a day or so. I also love making puppy chow – which I believe is also known as monkey munch and muddy buddies – using my beloved corn cereal.)

2. My prom didn't really interest me.
(I did go to both my junior and senior proms, those being 2 of the very few school dances I ever went to. Never having been anything resembling a social type, I never got excited at the prospect of things like school dances. I did go to prom, though, but I mainly just sat back with my friends while there. If I had to do it over again, I don't know if I'd go. It was pretty boring.)

3. The best thing about my kids is that they have four legs and fur.
(First, I mean absolutely no offense to any human children or their parents with this answer! I myself do not have human children, and I honestly don't see myself ever having any. I don't feel that's my calling. But, I do have kids of the four-legged and furry sort, and I wouldn't have it any other way.)

4. I cannot help saying hello to every animal I see, but that won't be changing anytime soon.
(I've done this ever since I was a small child. My parents have always told me how things like going on walks or bike rides or even trick-or-treating took forever with me as a child, because I had to stop and say hi to or wave at every single furbaby I saw. To be honest, nothing has changed since then. Not that all of these furry cuties know or care about my acknowledgements, but it makes me feel better knowing I didn't ignore them.)

Okay, now, are you ready for your weekly Eddy fix? I hope you are, because this girl has been busy. What's she been busy doing? Mountain climbing, of course!

Eddy thinks her momma's headboard is her very own personal Mount Everest.

I don't even know how this girl's face is that blurry when the rest of her was, by nothing short of a miracle, sitting still.

Sometimes it's tough finding a good foothold when mountain climbing. Don't worry, though, this girl is a pro.

See? She even does tricks. Like whatever trick that there is.

Yep, just pull that leg up there, Eddy. Just doing a little balancing act, are you?

And, of course, more blur.

Wishing everybody a fantastic Friday!

Our Tip of the Day:
For today's tip, we recommend you yet again use our doodle as an example of what not to do. To begin with, keep in mind that plants such as tulips can be toxic to cats and dogs. Always make sure that you do your research and never bring your furbaby in contact with dangerous plants, either outside or inside the house. In some cases, even the water being used to feed plants, such as those inside in pots and vases, can be potentially dangerous. This is especially the case if additives, such as plant food or any type of fertilizing agent, have been added. And also don't forget to always keep your furbabies and their activity levels in mind when decorating the home, such as with vases or other breakables. Always try to find somewhere safe, secure, and out of reach for such items. Safety before style!
