Making Do on Mancat Monday

Those of you who regularly visit our blog might remember that my mancat Evan's hind legs are paralyzed. Need a refresher? When Evan was roughly 6 weeks of age, a coyote made its way into the barn where he and his mom and litter mates lived at the time. Evan was the only survivor, and lost the function of his back legs in the ordeal. I met Evan when, shortly after those tragic events occurred, he was dumped at the front doors of the cat clinic where I used to work, with a note explaining what had happened to him. Fast forward, and Evan is now my momma's boy.

Anyway, Evan asks that no one feel bad or sad for him. Why? Because he makes do just fine! He still lives a happy and full life, running and playing and getting up onto furniture all by himself. He's not showing you any of those particular skills today, though. Nope, there's another skill that Evan wanted to show off today. And that is...

Bath time!

Time to get squeaky clean!
(Do you see those white whiskers peeking in at the top of this photo?
That's Thimble. She's sort of a camera hog and didn't like Evan getting a turn.)

Although it may look just a tad unorthodox, Evan can take a kitty bath with the best of them.

Gotta get every last spot.

All cleaned and preened, now it's time for a sunny snooze.

And Evan is also happy to report that he stars in his mom's art for today. It's another little doodle in honor of Thanksgiving. And, well, nothing says Thanksgiving like pumpkin pie.

Just like yesterday's squirrely drawing, this one was made with the intention of being part of a little Thanksgiving-inspired sign. After all, like I've said before, I feel bad for our US Thanksgiving, so often pushed into the shadows of its Halloween and Christmas neighbors. I don't know if this art makes Thanksgiving feel any better, but I can try.

Anyway, I experimented with some sign making, and ended up with these two pieces from the past two days' drawings:

I have a lot more random and highly experimental pieces in the works, as my next few weekends are all filled with holiday arts and craft fairs in my local area. These sorts of things always get me so excited, and are simply just a lot of fun. I know I've been saying how I feel bad for Thanksgiving, since the hype for it is so very low compared to that of its predecessor Halloween and especially compared to its successor Christmas. But, let's be honest, when I participate in events such as holiday arts and crafts fairs, I end up just as eager and giddy for Christmas as anyone else.

Well, we sure hope all of our furiends have a wonderful Monday!

Our Tip of of the Day:
As if we haven't talked enough lately about feeding pumpkin to your furbabies, please remember to avoid feeding them pumpkin in the form of pie filling. Go for cooked fresh pumpkin, or for plain pureed pumpkin in a can. Pumpkin pie filling contains additives that are not ideal, and in some cases dangerous, to your furbabies. Sugars and spices found in pumpkin pie filling, for example, are not necessarily healthy for dogs and cats, and in some cases may cause upset stomach or worse.

Awwww, I had no idea Evan lost his whole family! How tragic. :( I'm glad he survived though and found such a wonderful home with you! Cats are so resilient. :)

Love your signs, by the way!

Evan, you are so handsome, and you have excellent grooming habits! :-) I love the golden orange of your fur. I think you are a cool cat not to let being different keep you from having a fun life full of Love. Tell your Mom I really like those signs, especially the one of you looking at the pumpkin pie.

Evan is such a cutie. Good job on the bathing Evan. I love this drawing and the 2 signs, very creative. Excellent tip too, my cats have zero interest in pumpkin, but I never thought of all the preservatives in the mix.

Evan is handsome irregardless of his disability. TW said she makes the best pumpkin pie. It's all about the spices.
