S is for...

Are you ready for today's installment of the A to Z Challenge?

This time around, as many of you already know, our alphabetical series of doodles stars my angel Rosie. In this series of doodles, Rosie is going throughout a more or less routine sort of day, doing this and that, A to Z style. So, what's Rosie doing with the letter S?

S is for...Suppertime

We're going to pause here and have a little poll of a question. Do you refer to your evening meal as supper, or as dinner? I know it's very commonly known as dinner. Growing up, though, nearly everyone in my immediate and extended family referred to it as supper, and so I've always called it supper. So, what is it to you? Supper? Dinner? Both? Neither?

Okay, moving on now. Throughout this A to Z Challenge, we're also going to do our best to share furbaby photos that in some way correlate with angel Rosie's daily alphabetical adventures. To go along with today's A to Z topic of Suppertime, Toby wanted to show you all the best part of supper.

Dessert! Obviously, dessert is indeed the best part of any supper. The strange dessert you're seeing there comes from a flashback to Pi (Pie) Day a couple years ago. The pies were a chocolate pudding pie, still covered with plastic wrap in the glamorous shot above, and a pumpkin pie with chocolate chips sprinkled over half of it. My dad likes chocolate-infused pumpkin pie, and that's about the only explanation I have for chocolate chips on top of a pumpkin pie.

Is it pie time yet? We sure hope so. Much to the kitties' delight, whipped topping is of course always involved in the eating of pies.

Happy Monday and happy supping, friends!

Our Tip of the Day:

Today's tip was inspired by Ellen of 15andmeowing, and it is to do your best to remain knowledgeable about pet food recalls, especially those that could directly affect your furbaby. When Ellen recently commented on pet food recalls on her blog, she specifically mentioned the website Truthaboutpetfood.com. This site offers news on current pet food recalls, making it a great source for keeping up-to-date on any foods that might be unsafe for your kitty or pup to consume. There are also other online resources with lists of pet food recalls, including the AVMA website, the FDA website, and sometimes specific pet food company websites or some veterinary clinic websites. For the health and safety of your furbaby, regularly check news of recalls on pet foods, treats, and so forth.

We call the evening meal "dinner" - probably because that's what my Mom called it. We know a lot of people who call it "supper" though and I think it really just comes down to what we were used to hearing as kids! Those pies look - well - DELICIOUS!!

Hugs, Pam

You know, growing up a lot of my family called it supper, too! So growing up, I always called it supper, but then when I got to college, everyone called it dinner, so I picked that up. I've been calling it dinner ever since.

As a kid growing up, we called it supper...but for some reason, now I call it dinner. Don't know when or why I made that change.

It's always been dinner here. Thanks to both you and 15 and meowing for the website about recalls - good info!

Around here we call it dinner. Those pies sure look yummy. You all have a terrific day.

It's an interesting question, because we have the same issue between France and Switzerland for "dîner" et "souper" : we would say supper in your case, as we say "souper" in French for our evening meal. Purrs

Mmmmm Pie. Dad says his grandparents called it supper and he grew up with his parents owning a diner where they called it the "Dinner Rush" so uses both. But he is odd. We cats call it Eats!

Cute drawing. We have always called it supper. The only thing I call dinner is a big lunch on a Sunday. The pies look good. I have a great recipe for pumpkin chocolate chip cookies if you want it just let me know. :)

Hmm, guess we use both supper and dinner interchangeably. When talking to the cats, I call it din-din, or brekky in the morning. The Hubby rolls his eyes.

When I was a kid, the noon meal was "dinner" and the 6 pm meal was "supper" But in college, "lunch" was the noon meal (and a smaller meal than it was back on the farm) and dinner went to the evening. No idea why - the seemed pretty interchangeable, but lunch was more like what you got at school,

That looks like a yummy dinner, Rosie! But the pie looks even better :) I kind of use the terms interchangeably.

Dinner is supposed to be the largest meal of the day. If you eat your big meal at noon, as many in the South used to, the evening meal was called supper. If the largest meal is in the evening, the noon meal is often referred to as lunch, which comes from luncheon. Originally a luncheon was any small meal besides breakfast or dinner, and could be at noon or late in the evening, such as a before bed snack.

Never ask such stuff of a word buff.

Anyway, i can see how chocolate could go with pumpkin.
