Friendly Fill-Ins

Happy October to all! On this fine day, how about we get right on with the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge? If you'd like to join in on the fun, please do so! My co-host Ellen of 15andmeowing came up with the first two fill-in statements, and I came up with the second two.

1. So far this year, I have accomplished _________.

2. My plans for October include _________ and _________.

3. _________ maybe difficult, but it's worth it.

4. I don't think I'll ever master _________.

My answers are below in bold.

1. So far this year, I have accomplished finding a routine for keeping hind limb paralyzed and urinary incontinent Evan as clean as possible.
(I don't know why I felt compelled to put this answer, but I did. Evan has been hind limb paralyzed since kittenhood, and he's been urinary incontinent for about two years now. When his urinary incontinence grew worse late last year, it took a little while to figure out the grooming schedule and the best cleaning routine for him, but we finally got it down. At least, mostly. There are certainly some hiccups here and there, of course, but I can totally live with that if my boy is healthy and happy.)

2. My plans for October include enjoying the autumn weather and doing all things Halloween.
(What a basic answer for October, but it rings true for me. October is my favorite month of the year. I love the weather and how cool and crisp it is, and there is no time of the year that I enjoy being outside more. And I love Halloween, and I will spend this entire month watching spooky films, scribbling up spooky doodles, and I'll definitely be carving a cat-o'-lantern. It just couldn't get any better than October.)

3. Sharing your life with a specially abled furbaby sometimes may be difficult, but it's worth it.
(I had to add the "sometimes" in there because I never want to make anyone think that specially abled, or special needs, furbabies are a hassle. They're not. They are perfect the way they are and sharing a life with them is beyond rewarding. Does my hind limb paralyzed boy Evan have urinary incontinence and therefore make messes sometimes? He sure does, as I even mentioned in fill-in #1 above. But is working around these issues worth it? Absolutely.)

4. I don't think I'll ever master closing a Ziploc bag.
(I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this weirdness on our blog before. For some reason, Ziploc bags and I do not get along. It's such a basic, everyday sort of thing, and yet I struggle with it nearly every time I come across one of the little buggers. I can never get the zipping mechanism, or whatever you might call it, to line up or close right. Well, I often do eventually manage it, but it takes far longer than it should for an adult like myself. My sister often laughs at me for it, but that's probably because I'm often asking her to just close them for me before I lose my cool over a plastic bag. One of my co-workers once made a comment about having a chronic struggle with closing Ziploc bags, and I no longer felt so alone.)

Tip of the Day

For the past couple of years, I've really enjoyed sharing tips centered around Halloween all throughout October. So, we're going to share those tips again. So, are you ready for the first Halloween tip of the season? We're going to start with none other than the festive decorations. Most people might be more cognizant of their Christmas decorations and how they could affect the resident furbabies. However, also keep your furbaby's safety in mind if you put up Halloween decorations. Halloween decorations can come in all shapes and sizes, such as wreaths, garland, and all sorts of trinkets and goodies in between. If you're anything like us, you have all sorts of black cats and pumpkins out on display this time of year. No matter what kind of decorations you put out, make sure that anything your furbaby might chew on is out of their reach. Small pieces of Halloween decor, or parts and pieces of off larger pieces of decor, could lead to choking, obstruction, or perforation of the bowel if ingested. Be aware of cords that might come with certain decorations, and realize the various hazards those cords can pose to a curious kitty or pup. While you don't have to refrain from being festive and decorating for Halloween (or any holiday), you simply need to take your kitty or pup's safety into consideration and do your best to prevent injury to your furbaby when putting up your decor.

Oh no, kitty...you've lost some of your candy!
I adore our cats, however Sweetie just doesn't seem to want me to sleep a full night anymore, but we'll work it out.

Great answers to the fill-ins. I am glad you have a schedule worked out for Evan. I am with you on enjoying the weather and all things Halloween. The zip lock bag cracked me up. :) Eddy is a beautiful girl and I love the flashback. Great tips too. XO

Yes, the specially abled are worth it, people and pets. We've bottle raised and found homes for specially abled pets in the past.

Love the Eddy fix!

Cute doodle! That kitty's treats are overflowing. :)

Looking good, Eddy. What are you looking at?

Good luck, Mom L.A., with those ziploc bags. Keep trying!

Evan is so sweet and you are a wonderful angel for caring for him. If you expressed him a little every few hours does that help or does he just leak?
Now about those Zip Locks. Try the Blue Ones. They work for me and all the others always fall apart or go half way or some other failure. Just my humble feline opine. Great Fill-Ins have a great weekend

Pop is right there with you on #4. OTOP, TW can't open them. She has to call Pop to open my treat bags.
Hi Eddy!

Supurr fill-ins, and totally agree with #3, although Smooch is tripawed, not in Evans league, though it has been challenging at times.
