Woof Woof Wednesday

Astrid is a tad bit cross with me. Since our A to Z Challenge was feline-focused, this pup didn't get to star in a whole lot of our April posts. We'll go ahead and remedy that with one of her obligatory pouty poses in the window. This was snapped on a bright and shiny day, which made for some warm window gazing, but not so great lighting. We didn't think you all would mind.

Happy Wednesday, to all!

Our Tip of the Day:

April was Heartworm Awareness Month. Since each day last month we shared tips relating to our A to Z Challenge, we did not get the chance to share any heartworm prevention tips. So, in hopes that late is truly better than never, we'll now be sharing some heartworm tips. Many of these are repeat tips from last year, but this is a significant topic that we don't mind repeating.

We'll start simple and remind you all that heartworms come from mosquitoes, and a dog or cat can become infected if they are bit by a mosquito carrying larvae. This can occur in either indoor or outdoor furbabies. For indoor animals, you can try to keep all windows and doors closed, in hopes to prevent mosquito entry into the house. However, they can enter through cracks, or simply when you open the door. What’s more, it is possible for mosquitoes to be out and about year round, even in the winter. For this reason, our first, very significant tip is to simply ensure that you keep your dogs and cats on preventatives that include heartworm coverage, and that you do this year round.

Do you have another pair for the front paws? And are your tennis balls red?

Nice to see Astrid in her usual pose, such a cutie. I like the drawing too. Excellent tips as well. My Sammy tested positive for heartworm so it can happen to indoor cats. Luckily he didn't seem to have any breeding in him.

It’s great to see Astrid in the window, and i was told there are no heartworm preventives for cats, just as there aren’t for people, but that cats and people simply aren’t good vectors for heartworms and usually don’t come down with it. Will have to research that.
