(Almost) Wordless Wednesday: Snowy Silhouettes (and Dirty Windows)

We got our first real snow of the season over the weekend.

And we woke up this morning to find at least two more inches of the white stuff on the ground!

Our Tip of the Day:
If there are outdoor, stray, or feral cats in your area for which you'd like to provide shelter, especially in cold winter weather, you can easily and cheaply do this simply by using a Styrofoam cooler. Cut a hole in the side of the cooler so the cat can get inside, where it can find some insulated warmth. Blankets or towels are always an easy means of providing bedding. However, keep in mind that should the cloth get wet with rain or snow, the bedding is essentially rendered useless and the cat won't be able to stay dry and warm. Instead, consider placing a deep layer of straw in the shelter. Straw does not hold in moisture like cloth, and the animal can burrow down into it to stay warm.

Great picture of your silhouetes. I have all kinds of little houses so to speak around the yard and they have the donkey barn and the other little barn. Plus a lot of them come up on my porch. Outside cats do all right if they have shelter and food to eat. Great Tip of the day.

You are supposed to look through the window, not at it :)

Good tips there about the outdoor kitties

This are terrific silhouettes, Evan and Thimble! We got just a little snow last Saturday. We haven't had much at all this season, but we're supposed to get quite a bit THIS Saturday and Sunday...

Hugs!

Nothing prettier than a fresh snow...if only it stayed that way!

Oh, we love your snowy silhouettes! We had just a little the other day (Sunday) but there's supposed to be quite a storm coming this weekend.

Great tip about the straw!

Great tips! We had a feral boy that we cared for for years. We took and old dog crate and wrapped it in blankets and then covered with a large super strength garbage bag. We put hay inside and left one side open so he could come and go. It stayed dry and the garbage bag broke the window.

Thank you for the reminder about helping strays and ferals keep warm. Two of our cats were strays at one point and such warmth would have been really welcome.
