Summertime Sunday Selfies

It's Sunday, which means it's time for one of our most favorite things, and that's the Sunday Selfie blog hop hosted by our fun furiends over at The Cat on My Head!

Over here in our corner of the world, it's hot and humid and perfectly unbearable outside. So, for today's selfies, my furbabies decided to show off their mad skills at enjoying the sun from the comfort of their beloved air conditioning.

We hope all of our furiends are staying cool and getting their Easy on today!

Our Tip of the Day:
Today seems like the perfect day to reemphasize the importance of protecting our furbabies from excessive heat and thereby preventing heat stroke. Dogs and cats do not perspire in the same way that humans do, and they can only combat heat through means such as panting or through their paw pads. It is crucial, therefore, to expose our furbabies to as little excessive heat as possible. For example, try to keep walks and trips outdoors to early morning or late evening hours. And keep in mind that when the temperature outside reaches or exceeds 80 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature inside a car can reach or exceed 120 degrees within 30 minutes. In other words, never leave your furbaby in the car on a hot day (not even if you crack a window, as the temperature inside can still rise dangerously high)! If your furbaby is outside for any amount of time on a hot day, be sure that there is water and shade available, and be sure to closely monitor his or her status. If you have any concern that your furbaby is becoming heat exhausted, immediately get him or her somewhere cool, wet him or her (especially the paw pads) with cool water (not cold water, as this can constrict blood vessels and thereby make cooling difficult or impossible), and offer water or ice cubes. In the case of an emergency, never hesitate to seek out veterinary help.
