Mancat Monday: The Doorman II

Evan has shown off many times his skills at making sure our front door doesn't go anywhere. A couple weeks ago he proudly gave an example of his skills as the Doorman of our home. Today, he's decided to bless all of our furiends with a second installment in this series.

Evan the Doorman is a true expert, and so he knows the workings of the door. That's why he knows how important that doorknob is.

He likes to sit and ponder who might turn that doorknob and come inside. When his mommy's not home, he always hopes it will be her on the other side of that door, coming home from work to spend the evening with him.

Sometimes, while Evan waits for his mommy to come home and turn that doorknob, a nap is in order. Honestly, being the Doorman is terribly exhausting.

In between naps, Evan thinks happy thoughts. You know, thoughts about his mommy coming home and walking through that door.

Are there any other door fanatics out there? Evan hopes he's not the only mancat a tad bit infatuated with the wonderful thing that is the front door.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Monday to start off the week!

Our Tip of the Day:
I'm sure many pet parents have had a scary experience or two of a door darting furbaby. It can be a dangerous thing, especially when that front door leads to a street beyond. That's why, for your furbaby's safety, it's crucial that you do your best to train them from loitering near and thereby darting out the door. For your pup, you can teach them to "sit" or "stay" or "wait" when you are coming and going from the house, and you can teach them to do so away from the door, so that they learn to stay clear of it when you come and go. Cats may be able to be trained in a similar manner, so that they learn to stay back from the door when you come and go. Such training may be accomplished by positive reinforcement with treats or toys - when your furbaby is away from the door, and obediently remains that way, give them a delicious or fun reward. Furthermore, as difficult as it may sound, it is a good idea to get in the habit of never giving your pup or kitty attention at the door, so that they learn that the door is not a place to hang around. Instead, you can try setting up a designated area across the room from the door, such as in the form of a pet bed or cat tree, where your furbaby may be trained to wait when you are coming and going from the door. Just as with any training, this can take time and patience, but door safety is very important!

Evan is the cutest doorman ever. I am sure you are too young to remember Carlton the doorman on Mary Tyler Moore, but I think of that every time you write Evan the doorman :) We are lucky to have extra security with an enclosed porch, but over the years Jinx has been on the porch during the day and made an escape.

Oh Evan, I think you would get along with Ruby. Our cats aren't as interested in the the front door, but Ruby waits for us there. There's a small window next to the door where she always waits for us to come home.

Evan, that is so great that you get watch over the front door. That is such an important job. You sure are looking good.

All our doors have windows that are low and so we can see who may be loitering, which helps. Another good trick is to ring the doorbell before you come in. That always scatters my kitties. I've never met a kitty that isn't a door watcher at some time or another. Evan seems to have it down to a science.

Evan é um porteiro muito fofo.
Eu tive alguns sustos com um dos meus gatos conseguindo
passar pelo portão enquanto eu entrava, é uma boa ideia treina-los.
Obrigada pela dica.

I'm sorry to be off-topic, but I'm having a problem with my computer that you might be able to help me with. It's when I'm in Blogger. (All other areas seem to be working fine) Whenever I push the button that contains the words 'new post', the word 'loading' comes up - and it lasts a LONG time. Eventually, it does seem to work, but I have to wait 45 minutes or longer! Have you had this problem, and what are you doing to fix it? My computer is an HP Chromebook 14 (laptop) and you can contact me as follows:

Thanks again for your help.

The only "door fanatic" in our home is my Sheltie brother, Dakota! He lives by the door waiting for the dog across the hall to appear MOL xoxoxo catchatwithcarenandcody

Exhausting work as a doorman? We were exhausted just waiting for the look on Evan's face when, and if, his mom ever came home! Keep up the good work, Evan!

It is good to have a door expert in the house. We mostly growl when something comes to OUR door. We could use better skills about doors...
