As always, our courteous host shared a photo prompt to guide our poetic endeavors. This week's prompt is this lovely and magical image here:
I absolutely adore imagery like this. I wanted to create a poem as magical as that there photo, but if I'm being honest, my poem ended up nowhere near as magical as I would've liked. I was in the middle of scribbling up a series of bookish doodles when I began working on this poem and its illustration, and those bookish thoughts infiltrated my poetry time. So, that's how this week's poem came to fruition. If you'd like to read it, go right on ahead.
The Library Cat
There was only one place Delilah wished to be,
And that was the wondrous, whimsical library.
The librarian's name was Perry,
And Delilah found him kind and caring.
The books on the library shelves were just one of Delilah's favorite things.
She also enjoyed the library's mascot, which was always purring.
Indeed, Delilah always looked forward to seeing librarian Perry's feline friend,
Who brought her joy to absolutely no end.
Delilah's mother was allergic to cats,
Which really was a very devastating fact.
And so Delilah ran to the library not only to get lost in a story,
But also to visit with meowing and whiskered Dory.
"Hello there, Delilah!" Perry said as she arrived.
"Hello to you!" was the young girl's reply.
Then she asked, "Where might I find Dory today?"
Without any hesitation, Perry immediately did say,
"You'll find Dory just around that corner there.
I've also set out a book that you'll enjoy, I swear."
Delilah thanked Perry and then scurried on her way.
Dory indeed sat just around the corner, and on a table she did splay.
Surrounded by books and a cat,
Delilah didn't think anything made her happier than that.
Dory pawed at a book that rested on the table.
Perry always chose for Delilah enjoyable little fables.
Looking at the title, Delilah knew she'd enjoy this one.
She said, "What do you think, Dory? How about some fun?"
The cat mewed and butted her head against the girl's hand.
The next few hours would not be even remotely bland.
Delilah opened the book and could not help but smile.
The pages held lovely words and illustrations for miles.
Delilah read and read until she reached a story about a moonlit night.
A little boat on the colorful page floated at sea in a magical sight.
"Wouldn't that be such a lovely thing to do, Dory?" the girl said.
She found her feline friend gone and missing when she turned her head.
Indeed, Dory no longer sat on the table by her side.
When she realized that, Delilah's smile reached her eyes.
"Have you done what I think you've done?" the girl asked aloud.
Turning her eyes back to the page, Delilah felt quite proud.
Dory now appeared in the boat on the illustrated page.
Delilah loved that her feline friend was like a magical mage.
There were also words on that page of the book.
They read, "For an adventure, all one must do is open the door and have a look."
Delilah smiled even wider, if that was even possible.
She was ready for an adventure moonlit and nautical.
Knowing what the words on the page meant,
To the door on the nearby wall she immediately went.
Now hugging the book in her arms,
The girl opened the door, not even remotely alarmed.
On the other side of the door was not the usual room it held.
Instead, Delilah stepped onto grass in front of moonlit water that swelled.
The image in front of Delilah was just like the book's illustration,
And the girl giggled with a feeling of nothing but elation.
On the water just ahead swayed a quaint little boat.
Dory and a glowing lantern the boat did wondrously boast.
The cat meowed and spun in a circle upon seeing the girl.
Delilah headed toward the boat and away from the common world.

It's not only a day of poetry, but also a day to give thanks. More specifically, it's time for the wonderful Brian's Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.
To go along with our poem and illustration for today, Thimble wanted to share a thankful that is somewhat magical. And so, this lady cat decided to share how grateful she is that she glows in the sun.
We'll just pretend that this photo isn't the result of this here human failing to change the camera's settings to account for the sunlight. Thimble's quite proud of her magical glow. Oh, and ignore all the crumbs on the floor, and the crooked rug. All of that is how the kitties here hinder help this human when she's trying to clean the floors.

Last but not least, how about we share the fill-in statements for tomorrow's Friendly Fill-Ins challenge? Ellen of 15andmeowing is the mastermind behind the first two, and I came up with the second two.
1. _________ is like trying to nail jello to a wall.
2. _________ never _________.
3. If I had a dollar for every time _________, I would be rich.
4. I wish _________ grew on trees.
We'll see you tomorrow, friends!

Did you know?
Did you know that, unlike humans, cats and dogs get little to no vitamin D from the sun? Their skin simply does not synthesize vitamin D from sunlight like our own skin does. For this reason, cats and dogs must get vitamin D in their diet. In the wild, cats and dogs get it from the prey they consume. When it comes to the furbabies in our homes, pet food is formulated to contain vitamin D. This is just one reason why it is important to make sure our kitties and pups are getting food meant for their species. Domesticated cats and dogs require food formulated for their species, as is this the way they acquire certain nutrients, including vitamin D.

Such a nice poem. Mom Paula says she never was any good with poetry.
That was an excellent poem. Cute drawing too. Nice shot of Thimble enjoying the sun. Interesting fact, I did not know that. I look forward to your fill-ins tomorrow.
