Friendly Fill-Ins

You made it to Friday! Congratulations! Now, who's ready to fill in some fill-ins? It is indeed time for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge. In case you missed the fill-in statements yesterday, I'll share them again below. Ellen of 15andmeowing came up with the first two, and I came up with the second two.

1. A past event that I would like to see in person is _________.

2. If I were a dog, my breed would be _________.

3. If I came with a warning label, it would say the following: _________.

4. I would want to take _________ with me to a deserted island.

As always, here's how I fared. My answers are in bold (and are of course accompanied by my usual ramblings).

1. A past event that I would like to see in person is when J.R.R. Tolkien wrote The Hobbit.
(This probably seems really random, doesn't it? In truth, though, The Hobbit means a lot to me. I've mentioned it here on our blog a few times. I am a huge fan of books and reading, and my favorite genre is fantasy. I'm sure this is in no small part because my dad is an avid reader of the fantasy genre, and The Hobbit is one of the first books I remember him reading to me as a bedtime story when I was a little girl. I even grew up with a map of Tolkien's Middle-earth in my playroom. I still enjoy The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings, very, very much.)

2. If I were a dog, my breed would be the magnificent mutt.
(I'm pretty sure I'd be the farthest thing from a purebred, and I'm totally fine with that. Besides, my pup Astrid is a mutt, and I'm quite fond of her. So, I'd follow in her footsteps and be a proud mutt.)

3. If I came with a warning label, it would say the following: BEWARE! CHRONICALLY COVERED IN CAT HAIR.
(I really don't mind being covered in cat hair. That's probably why I don't even try that hard anymore to take the lint roller to my clothes. I used to carry a lint roller with me everywhere, and now I'm just like, "Eh, a little cat hair never killed anyone." That's not a great thing for me to think, though, because one of my neighbors actually has a pretty severe allergy to cats, and it's legit. That man will blow up like a balloon. He's a really nice guy with a wife who loves animals, as well as three little kids who love waving at the cats they always see in my front door and windows. As for him, though, he'll just have to heed the warning label and keep a safe distance.)

4. I would want to take a ship and its crew with me to a deserted island.
(How else would I get off the island after my little adventure? Other things I would consider taking are of course my furbabies, books, and other wonderful stuff like that. But, I ultimately decided on taking with me an easy way out instead. I guess I could take a private airplane with me, but flying is something I've never done and hope to never do. So, I'll stick with the ship and its crew.)

It's getting pretty darn warm outside to have the windows open too often or too long, but a certain lady cat around here insists.

Eddy gets what Eddy wants. Obviously.

How's the weather in your corner of the world? Is it hot? Are there window whiffies going on? We hope Mother Nature is treating you kindly!

Doodle of the Day:

Yet another random doodle for a challenge I'm doing with a small group of writers. My calico angel Rosie is indeed going to appear in all of these. I've been drawing her a lot lately, and it makes me so happy to do so.

Did you know?
Did you know that study findings from 2013 indicate that domestic house cats share 95.6% of their genome (DNA) with tigers? The tiger and domestic cat lines diverged nearly 11 million years ago, yet they still maintain significantly similar DNA. Perhaps this helps explain why our own kitties display more than a few physical and behavioral characteristics that resemble those of tigers in the wild.

I've not read The Hobbit, nor watched any of the movies. Weird, huh? I do understand, however, what it's like to find an author whose writings reach right into your heart, and they stay there forever.

Great fill-in answers. I think your #1 is a wonderful answer- I remember you telling us your Dad read that to you. You have such amazing parents. We had the same thought about the desert island- get off! :) Very cute drawing and I love the photos of Eddy. And no, I did not know that fact. Have a nice weekend! XO

Our 5th grade teacher, Mr. Zimmerman, would read The Hobbit to us as a class if we did our work well and quickly. Brilliant man, he timed it so that he read the last page on the last day of school, right before the last bell rang.

Bigger Girl had a young lady she tutored who was so allergic to cats, Bigger Girl kept clothes she washed at someone else's home and would go over there, shower, put on the clothes she had washed there, then don a hazmat suit before she could be in the same room with her. It can be life threatening, so i do try to be mindful of others and at least not have too much fur on me when i'm out and about.

The DNA study proves what i've always said, cats are cats are cats.

Great answers! Your warning label made us chuckle. Guilty here too, and I wouldn't have it any other way! Mudpie wants the windows and doors open, but she's already acting like she's overheating.

My peeps aren't nice like you. They won't open the windows when it's hop not even for moi. I wonder why no one has said they'd be a rescue dog cos rescue is everyone's fave breed.

Wonderful filling in.....most of us with kitties have a bit of a problem with being covered in cat hair but it's become a permanent part of my "signature look" !! Good idea to have a plane ready for takeoff on your deserted island. I hadn't thought of that. Hope you and your kitty crew have a wonderful weekend of window whiffies and fun.

Love, Pam and Teddy too

I haven't read the Hobbit but after reading what you said about it I would like to read it. I haven't been reading too much lately because I have the dry eyes thing going on. The "Magnificent Mutt" is a most excellent choice. Eddy is lucky to have whiffies. I wanted to thank you for co-hosting the Fill-Ins with Ellen. I enjoy them! After two tries at following you by email, the third time was the charm. Now I can visit when notified! It is HOT in Florida and we need rain!

The mom read The Hobbit and really enjoyed it...just like the other books in the series. She liked the movies too. It isn't too hot here yet so our windows are wide open. Eddy, come visit us anytime!

The Hobbit and LOTR movies were all shot here in New Zealand and now I find there is a movie about Tolkien's early life which inspires the books. The man had a huge influence on literature.

I loved the Hobbit and was one of the zillions leaning over the railings to see Martin Freeman and the cast as they walked the red carpet. Happy times.
