Did you know?Did you know that cats sleep in the sun for more than just the sheer enjoyment of it? There are instinctive and biological reasons for kitties' sunbathing habits. As is the case with most mammals, a cat's body temperature decreases when they sleep. In order to keep their body temperature balanced, warm, and cozy when they are sleeping, instinct often tells cats to seek out heat sources such as the sun. Sun is also a great source of vitamin D for cats and all species alike, as you all very likely know. Of course, though the sun does offer great benefits, it also poses hazards such as sunburn and skin cancer, even for our cats. So, while you can certainly allow your kitty to enjoy a sun puddle or two, do keep an eye on them and ensure they aren't spending dangerous amounts of time soaking up those rays.
